Role Outline

This role will deliver and develop high quality and impactful opportunities for those affected by sight loss to improve their skills and confidence. This includes the delivery of a wide variety of learning, skills and training support delivered both digitally and in the community.

You will collaborate with the wider Services team to co-ordinate specialisms to provide integrated and impactful support for people affected by sight loss.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  Operational

  • Effective planning and organisation of Galloways learning and skills opportunities ensuring that they meet the needs of the people who use the services.
  • Ensure the Galloways learning and skill development opportunities appeal and are available to a wide variety of stakeholder groups on a variety of topics.
  • To develop and deliver effective training, information and support to people with sight loss including introductory sessions, progressive training and consolidation/master classes to live well.
  • Encourage and facilitate peer-to-peer learning and support among service users to build confidence and community around our Brews Up offer.
  • Keep up to date with new assistive technology solutions, equipment and products for our user group to ensure training and services are delivered to a high standard.
  • Deliver assistive technology support and training to individuals and groups.
  • Support the content and delivery of the Galloways online library of support resources. Providing content that is for a variety of stakeholder groups and is kept fresh and updated.
  • Work closely with the Services team to design new learning events, product demonstrations and training sessions that meet the needs of those who use our services.
  • To provide basic training relating to sight loss to local businesses and community groups to support better client integration in the community
  • Support the recruitment of volunteers for service delivery
  • To work with the Volunteer Lead to ensure that volunteers are effectively trained and mentored in their work supporting service users.
  • To support data collection and analysis, and record-keeping, and to produce reports as required.
  • Sustaining good working relationships with key networks and stakeholders of interest in Lancashire and Sefton
  • Provide cover for other members of the team when required.

Organisation and Administration

  • To actively manage a caseload, making appointments and prioritising tasks as appropriate.
  • To work to meet qualitative and quantitative targets and to collect statistical information to monitor progress against targets.
  • To maintain accurate records, complete relevant project documentation and database inputting for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • To share and disseminate good practice information within the team.
  • To gather feedback/case studies as required.
  • Support compilation of risk assessments for each activity undertaken.

  Additional Duties

  • Willingness to travel within the area and the community we work within
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ensure value for money and best use of resources in all activities related to the post
  • Any other reasonable duties as may reasonably be required by your line manager

This role profile will be reviewed in consultation with the post holder in the light of on-going and changing organisational needs and will form the basis for performance appraisal.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Good standard of education- A-Level standard or equivalent
  • Competent in the practical application of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word
  • and PowerPoint
  • Experience of maintaining electronic records
  • Competence in technology equipment, software and programmes
  • Experience in using digital communication platforms e.g. zoom
  • Knowledge of assistive technology solutions
  • Experience in delivering information and training sessions
  • Strong administrative skills including record keeping and report writing
