Archivist

Swire Archives’ mission is to manage the archive of Swire group companies in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and Singapore, and collaborate with our stakeholders in building engagement with our heritage and archive collections. The collections chronicle the Swire Group’s remarkable 150-year legacy in Hong Kong and beyond, offering a rare opportunity to engage with one of the region’s most significant and enduring business archives.

The job holder will support the Senior Archivist in all aspects of the management and preservation of Swire’s archives and artefacts, as well as assist in delivering engagement services. This role requires a passion for archives and heritage, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute to both operational and engagement activities.

Responsibilities: 

  • Undertake acquisition and collecting with Swire operating companies and external depositors
  • Implement the collections management program, including cataloguing and preservation, for both physical and digital archives and artefacts
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for the preservation and management of archives and artefacts
  • Support the development of the Swire Archives Digital Catalogue, including the creation of online exhibitions and heritage content
  • Handle enquiries, conduct research, and provide expertise on our archives and heritage to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support access, outreach and communication activities, and work together with our operating companies on their heritage-related initiatives, as required
  • Supervise daily operations of staff and volunteers, and provide training as needed

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, with a post-graduate qualification in archives and records management or related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in archives or records management field, experience in a corporate archives environment is an advantage. Candidates with less experience may be considered Assistant Archivist
  • Good understanding of international archival cataloguing and descriptive standards
  • Basic knowledge in management and preservation of digital archives
  • Sound interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to present to a diverse audience
  • Excellent command of verbal and written Chinese and English. Proficiency in Putonghua is preferred
