PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £36,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The role is a 35-hour week role incorporating on site early and late shift work, including weekend rotation. The role pays overtime and additional night payments where applicable. 

Rigger Supervisors attend a variety of events and shows to assist in the safe and legal loading of vehicles and trailers with equipment, cables and other associated plant, with due care and regard for these items. Assist stores base of operations in loading, vehicle movements, daily transportation, and maintaining vehicle standards. They are responsible for the routine weighing and checking of vehicles and trailers before driving and ensuring that the vehicle and load does not contravene any safety or legal requirement; promptly reporting defects.

Media Operations is one of two main departments within the Technology & Media Operations Group. Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC’s news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online. Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart.   


Working closely together with our news, sport and content colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily.  The team is also responsible for the management of production services, stores, and some audio, fleet vehicles and OB bases in England. 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

•    Load and transport equipment safely – Ensure vehicles and trailers are legally and safely loaded, weighed, and checked before travel.
•    Rig and operate technical equipment – Deploy, test, and maintain cables, infrastructure, and OB equipment on-site.
•    Drive and position OB vehicles – Safely drive, park, stabilize, and interconnect vehicles as per operational plans.
•    Manage site setup and teams – Erect support structures, supervise rigging crews, and maintain equipment standards.
•    Support communications and power systems – Operate generators, rig comms systems, and assist with sound equipment setup.
•    Support stores team in picking, loading, and transportation of operational equipment.
•    Ensure fleet vehicles and HGVs are maintained, clean, safe, and operational.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:


•    Licensed HGV Driver – Must hold a valid Cat C+E (Class I) licence, CPC, and Driver Qualification Card.
•    Strong understanding of transport legislation and safety requirements.
•    Able to work flexibly under pressure and fit into fast-paced production environments, according to the requirement of shifts. 
•    Capable of building effective relationships across craft, resource, and production teams.
•    Experienced in heavy lifting and manual handling tasks.


DESIRABLE SKILLS:


•    Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and operation of broadcast equipment and practices, with particular relevance to radio operations.
