We’re Hiring: Part-Time Finance Officer

Location: Bridport (Remote/Hybrid)
Hours: 10–12 hours per week (flexible)
Salary: £14–£16 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract: Temporary (4 months) – potential to extend subject to funding
Reporting to: Charity Co-Director

About the Role

As our Finance Officer, you’ll be the backbone of our financial operations, ensuring compliance, transparency, and smooth day-to-day financial management. You’ll work closely with our co-directors, Treasurer, and support staff, and help shape the financial future of our growing charity.

This is a flexible, predominantly home-based role with regular in-person meetings in Bridport.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Bookkeeping

• Maintain accurate financial records using Xero and Dext
• Manage income and expenditure records
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly
• Oversee invoice payments, staff reimbursements, and payroll (for 4 staff)

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Support creation of annual budgets and financial forecasts
• Track grant expenditure
• Build budgets for funding applications

Grant & Fundraising Support

• Monitor restricted vs unrestricted funds
• Provide financial reports for funders
• Support grant proposals with accurate costings

Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare monthly management accounts and reports
• Maintain Gift Aid records and submit claims
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and Charity Commission reporting

Governance & Administration

• Support the Treasurer in preparing board reports
• Attend Finance Committee meetings and take minutes
• Help improve financial policies and procedures

About You

Essential:

• At least 2 years’ experience in a finance or bookkeeping role
• Strong understanding of financial processes and accounting software (Xero, Dext, Excel)
• Knowledge of charity finance including restricted funds and Gift Aid
• Excellent attention to detail and time management
• Ability to work independently and within a small, friendly team

Desirable:

• AAT qualified or working towards ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA
• Experience with charity accounting and SORP
• Familiarity with grant funding and reporting
• Passion for community and children’s wellbeing
