Make a Difference Through Compassionate Counselling

Could you use your counselling skills to help people find hope after loss?

Just ‘B’ is looking for qualified counsellors to join our dedicated team, providing emotional wellbeing and bereavement support to adults across North Yorkshire — and beyond.

Just ‘B’ is part of North Yorkshire Hospice Care, a family of services that includes Herriot Hospice Homecare and Saint Michael’s Hospice. Together, we offer vital hospice care and emotional support to children, young people, and adults in our local communities and further afield.

As demand for counselling continues to grow, we’re looking to welcome more qualified counsellors to our team, helping us offer accessible, low-cost support to people facing bereavement, loss, and other complex challenges.

We’re Looking for Counsellors Who:

· Hold a recognised counselling qualification and have experience working with bereavement and loss as well as general counselling.

· Are confident working both face to face and remotely supporting clients who may live in rural areas or health conditions limiting mobility.

· Are confident working with high risk clients.

· Want to become part of a professional, caring community of counsellors who support one another.

What We Offer You:

At Just ‘B’, we understand that volunteering in a counselling role can be both rewarding and emotionally demanding. We’ll make sure you feel supported every step of the way with:

  • A full induction and ongoing professional support
  • Flexible volunteering hours to suit your schedule
  • The opportunity to be part of a compassionate, dedicated team making a real difference in people’s lives

How to Get Started:

1. Complete our online application form.

2. Attend a volunteer interview.

3. Complete online training and DBS check.

4. Provide qualification and membership (e.g. BACP) evidence

5. Attend a short in-person induction (Harrogate or Thirsk)

6. Begin making a difference

Our values

Our values sit at the heart of everything we do. As part of our team, you’ll share our commitment to being:

  • Caring and compassionate
  • Personal and supportive
  • Professional and accountable

  Equality, Diversity and Safeguarding

We warmly welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of gender, race, faith, disability, age, sexual orientation, or lived experience of mental health challenges.

We believe that everyone — children, young people, and adults — should be protected from abuse of any kind. Our safer recruitment and safeguarding processes reflect this commitment. Please see our Safeguarding Statement.
