WESTMINSTER SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP AND BURSARY FUND
Westminster School
Full-time
31st October 2025

Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunity to socialise outside working hours. Staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.

It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.

The role
The Under School is looking for a Deputy Master to run the Lower School, Reception to Year 4, from September 2026. The Deputy Master will be responsible for a full range of academic, pastoral, operational and administrative matters across the Lower School. In common with the other members of the Senior Management Team (SMT), they will take a whole-school perspective and contribute to the strategic vision and planning for the School. When required, the postholder will deputise for the Senior Deputy Master, representing the School at events and in meetings. Alongside their operational duties, the Deputy Master will be expected to teach a reduced timetable and will lead the professional development and review process for all teaching staff in the Lower School.

The successful applicant will have a strong academic background and will hold an honours degree or equivalent. They will have Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent) and will ideally be trained in Safeguarding at Level 3 or above. Experience of managing a high performing team in an educational setting, with a demonstrable impact including through a period of change, is integral to this role, as is experience of policy writing, and knowledge of Lower School national curriculum and 4+ and 7+ admissions processes. This role is suited to someone who is not only an outstanding teacher but who is able to think holistically, with an appreciation of the whole school perspective on all matters. The postholder will need to be a confident speaker and strategic thinker, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
