Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

We are there when it matters.

About us

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is in Oxenhope, near Keighley. As well as expert palliative care, we support people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. We work across Airedale, Wharfedale, Craven, and north Bradford.

We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease by combining specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms with other emotional, practical and spiritual support.

We are able to provide care in our inpatient unit and our CNS team are on hand to visit people and provide care for people in their own home.

About the role

In palliative care no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity because we care for patients with such a variety of conditions and symptoms. If you’d like to develop your knowledge of many different conditions and the impact this has on patients and their families a role in palliative care with Sue Ryder is for you.

Our senior nurses play an indispensable role in providing compassionate, holistic care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Their work extends far beyond medical tasks, encompassing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support for both patients and their families.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first.

Our senior nurses work on a rotational shift pattern, including early shifts, late shifts, long days, nights, and weekends. As this role supports a 24/7 service, we are seeking candidates with flexibility to work a range of shifts as required.
The successful applicants will play an active role within our multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside Specialty Doctors, therapy staff, volunteers and other vital members of the MDT taking a holistic approach in providing the best possible outcomes for each patient.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Providing support, leadership, recognition and supervision to other members of the team
• Sharing knowledge and expertise with other staff through formal and informal teaching.
• Acting as a mentor to student nurses
• Producing accurate, timely and complete records

About you

Sue Ryder prides itself on giving our patients the best possible quality of life by providing a holistic and individualised service.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in Palliative and End of Life Care. This experience may come from a hospice or alternatively, for example, from a High Dependency Unit or Oncology service. They will have a genuine desire to improve the lives of those living with a life limiting condition. Our empathetic, skilled and motivated nurses are the true foundation of what Sue Ryder does.

NMC registered and demonstrated leadership within an inpatient care team
Experience coordinating care and adjustments for complex needs
Ability to lead inclusive and effective clinical communication
Knowledge of clinical governance and inclusive practice standards

Desirable Criteria:

Experience implementing service improvement initiatives

Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided.
There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
If you would like to arrange an informal visit to our hospice, please let us know.
