WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As a Youth Support Worker, you’ll provide impartial advice, guidance, and support to young people aged 11–25. You’ll help maintain access to services, support aspirations, and uphold our values through community outreach and referrals. A driving licence and access is required for outreach in surrounding areas, including Havant.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering advice, guidance, and support to young people aged 11–25 on topics such as housing, education, employment, drug and alcohol concerns, and sexual health.
- Supporting service access and general administrative duties.
- Helping young people identify and achieve goals.
- Signposting and referring to other agencies and services.
- Providing support in person, via phone, and online chat.
- Conducting outreach work in areas in the Aldershot and North Hamps area.
- Ensuring advice aligns with organisational values.
- Advocating for young people with external agencies.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
- Staying informed on relevant legislation and policy.
- Coordinating internal and external referrals.
- Keeping accurate records using management systems.
- Upholding safeguarding and equal opportunities policies.
- Promoting health and safety practices.
- Building professional relationships with young people.
- Representing Step by Step at meetings and events.
- Supporting condom distribution, pregnancy testing, and signposting.
- Engaging in ongoing personal development and training.
- Working independently and as part of a team.
- Visiting our move on accommodation and supporting the young people and the building facilities in that location (Basingstoke and Farnborough).
- Using Microsoft Office and other record-keeping software competently.
- Some of your youth support duties will be carried out while stationed at reception, this will involve welcoming and signing in visitors.
Requirements:
- Must hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as this is a community-based role.
- Any offer of employment is subject to safer recruitment practices, two satisfactory references, and a satisfactory DBS check.
