Metabolic Geneticist

The Department of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School (DMS) at The University of Texas at Austin, in collaboration with its clinical partner Dell Children’s Medical Center—part of the Ascension Seton Healthcare Family—is seeking a Metabolic Geneticist. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to advance the care of patients with inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) while supporting Dell Med’s mission to transform health through education, research, and health transformation.

As part of the Dell Children’s Medical Center care team, Dell Med physicians collaborate closely with a broad network of pediatric specialists to provide coordinated, high-quality care for children with complex genetic and metabolic conditions. Dell Children’s, Central Texas’s premier pediatric hospital and the region’s only Level I pediatric trauma center, is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report across seven children’s specialties—reflecting the depth of subspecialty expertise and collaboration that supports complex metabolic care.

Key Responsibilities

This faculty role combines outpatient and consultative clinical practice with opportunities in teaching and research. Responsibilities include diagnosing and managing patients with suspected or confirmed metabolic disorders, conducting outpatient metabolic genetics clinics, and collaborating on inpatient consults with Dell Children’s subspecialists. Faculty are encouraged to pursue basic, translational, or clinical research, supported by departmental and institutional resources, and to contribute to the development of Austin’s Genomics Institute.

Through Dell Children’s, families have access to the most pediatric specialists in Central Texas. Our metabolic genetics team works closely with endocrinology, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonology, cardiology, hepatology, pharmacy, and nutrition experts—delivering comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for children with rare and complex metabolic conditions.

  • D. or D.O. with eligibility for Texas Medical Board licensure.
