The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation for GPs in the UK. Founded in 1952, it has over 54,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession, and the RCGP holds a heritage collection relating both to the history of general practice, and to its own history as a college.

With around 2,000 medical artefacts, and more than 1,600 boxes of archive material, the RCGP holds a significant medical heritage collection. Due to the size and scope of the collection, the RCGP is seeking a Heritage Administrator to assist with day-to-day administration.

We are looking for a passionate individual with strong administrative skills and a genuine interest in the heritage and history of medicine and general practice.

The ideal candidate will understand how a functional archive and museum catalogue works and be detail oriented. They will be able to work as a part of a team, and have a methodical approach to sorting and cataloguing archival collection items.

Education level and topic are less important than an understanding of functional archival and museum catalogues. The ideal candidate will have experience working with archives catalogues, and / or cataloguing to ISAD(G) standards. We are keen to hear from candidates of diverse backgrounds, who are passionate about the accessibility and functionality of archive and heritage collections.

In return, the College offers excellent benefits, terms and conditions and great working environment. The Royal College of General Practitioners is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Please download the Candidate Pack with the Job Description for the full list of responsibilities, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience required for the role.

The successful candidate will share our corporate values. In return, the College offers excellent terms and conditions and great working environment.
