We work closely with Kids First Nurseries that are based within our trust grounds at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham hospitals to care for our Trust family's children, they offer care for children from 6 weeks old up to 4 years. Job overview

This post will join a small and expanding acute oncology team based in NSECH. The post will support the lead nurse and team in delivering the Non Surgical Oncology agenda for acute oncology in providing high quality patient care and service development

.

Main duties of the job

To lead and coordinate the delivery and development of the Acute Oncology Service working closely with the 5 Oncology Day Units trust-wide.

Through the use of effective evidence based practice, in line with agreed national standards, promote patient safety and excellent clinical practice

To coordinate and liaise with the site specific Cancer teams through the use of effective communication and evidence based practice.

To provide the highest standard of holistic care for patients through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills and advice in the assessment and management of patients, working autonomously and with the multi-disciplinary teams to improve the quality and safety of patient care

To work autonomously and be accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care in relation to the Acute Oncology as set out in the NMC code

To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provide in the safest manner

To provide clinical leadership, expertise and specialist clinical advice and support to clinical staff on the management and care of patients within the Acute Oncology and lead the effective delivery of care to patients

To lead and participate in the continuing improvement of services in line with the Trust objectives and values.

To lead the provision of education and training to clinical staff and internal/external agencies

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN 1st level current NMC Registration
  • Degree in nursing or relevant degree level study
  • Registered Mentor
  • Specialist knowledge, and clinical skills and experience in Acute Oncology, Cancer of Unknown Primary, cancer pathways and Chemotherapy delivery and care, to Masters Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Advanced Clinical skills course or willing to undertake NACAN
  • Advanced communications skills course and Level 2 Psychology training or willingness to undertake
  • Qualification or relevant experience in Chemotherapy administration
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in specialist area of practice
  • IRMER Trained( willing to undertake)
  • A teaching and mentorship qualification and the ability to facilitate the learning of others.
Desirable criteria
  • Study at Master level or relevant clinical experience.
  • Independent Nurse Prescribing Course
  • Nurse Prescribing (willing to undertake)

Experience

  • Experience in change management
  • Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the post

Essential criteria
  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role.
