Dementia Services Manager

The Dementia Services Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and continuously improving high-quality, person-led dementia care and support services in alignment with the Meaningful Care Matters (MCM) philosophy. This role champions the creation of a true home, where people living with dementia, their families, and staff feel valued, connected, and seen as individuals.

The postholder will lead the embedding of MCM principles throughout daily practice nurturing a culture that prioritises emotional intelligence, relationships, and genuine moments of meaning. They will oversee service delivery, staff development, compliance, and care planning to ensure that every resident’s experience reflects dignity, purpose, and belonging.

Reporting to the Home Manager, the postholder will act as a key member of the leadership team, providing professional guidance, oversight, and assurance of quality systems. They will foster a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and compassionate leadership in support of Pembroke House’s MCM journey.

This role will require the post holder to deputise in the absence of the Home Manager, a responsibility that is shared with the Clinical Services Manager.

Pembroke House is a purpose built care home for veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Gillingham. We have been serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their dependants for over 70 years. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. The home has a ‘family run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close knit team, making it a unique and very special place to work.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Provide strong, compassionate leadership that exemplifies the Meaningful Care Matters ethos and models emotionally intelligent, relationship-centred practice.
  • Lead the embedding of MCM principles into every aspect of life at Pembroke House ensuring that the care environment feels like home, routines are flexible, and residents’ emotional needs shape daily rhythms and priorities.
  • Work alongside the Home Manager and Clinical Services Manager to sustain a culture where staff feel empowered, supported, and connected to the people they care for.
  • Lead and monitor quality standards through an MCM-informed lens ensuring both measurable outcomes and the “lived experience” of residents are valued as equal indicators of success.
  • Use MCM reflective tools, observations, and feedback to assess the emotional well-being of residents and the authenticity of care interactions.
  • Collate, analyse, and interpret quality and experience data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, ensuring lessons learned are embedded in practice.
  • Lead on the delivery and coordination of Dementia and Meaningful Care Matters training across the home.
  • Organise and lead the Home Action Team Organise, set agendas ensuring effective communication, accountability, and follow-through on agreed actions.
  • Develop and sustain a reflective learning culture, encouraging staff to think deeply about their work, emotions, and the impact of their interactions.

The Person

This role would suit someone who is naturally dependable, compassionate and trustworthy. They should be able to empathise with the needs of the residents, have patience and understanding and above all be kind and caring.

An enhanced DBS is a requirement of the post.
