Purpose of the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and highly organised Community Youth and Education Lead to lead and support a wide range of national and regional educational and youth initiatives.

This role combines programme leadership, partnership working, and administrative oversight ensuring high-quality experiences for young people and educators.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

National and Regional Youth Programmes

• Lead on Kivunim residential weekends (2 per year), including yearround programme support for participating communities.

• Collaborate with clergy, community leaders, and youth movements to develop, pilot, and evaluate new educational programmes.

• Coordinate youth provision for national Progressive Judaism events (e.g., Chagigah, Hineinu).

• Act as one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads for MPJ.

Community Education and Youth Support

• Liaise with Head Teachers, education lay leaders, and community youth workers to identify needs and share best practice.

• Develop and facilitate networking opportunities for educators, including annual conferences and follow-up support.

• Create and distribute educational resources for use in youth and learning settings.

• Support Hadracha or other leadership training for youth and education leaders.

Coordination of Community Visits

• Manage scheduling and logistics for visits from RSY-Netzer and LJY-Netzer movement workers.

• Lead on the Shinshinim Programme, including recruitment, placement, and pastoral support.

Administrative Support

• Processing and administering DBS checks.

• Manage the use of educational platforms, such as Educare.

• Coordinate awards and certificate schemes, including the Jack Petchey Award and RSY Tilda Certificate programme.

Support for Youth Movement Programmes

• Provide educational guidance and practical support for RSY/LJY movement workers.

• Assist in organising major summer programmes, including Shemesh and Kadimah, as required.

• Support the Director of Youth with checking quality of educational content for camp Peulot.

• Attend one of RSY or LJY summer residentials as responsible adult and DDSL.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Professional Knowledge and Experience

• Proven experience in Jewish education, youth work, teaching, or community programming.

• Experience of residential youth or educational events, including programme development and delivery.

• Familiarity with curriculum/resource development and informal learning techniques.

• Understanding of the UK Jewish community landscape and youth movements.

• Experience working with volunteers and exchange programmes such as Shinshinim.

• Awareness of safeguarding practices, including DBS procedures.

Planning, Organisational, and Project Management Skills

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

• Experience organising large-scale events or programmes across different communities.

• Strong administrative and IT skills; proficiency with educational platforms (eg managing Educare system), high levels of accuracy, sensitivity and awareness of confidentiality.

• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programmes effectively.

Interpersonal and Relationship-Building Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build strong relationships with young people, volunteers, clergy, and lay leaders.

• Ability to facilitate networking and collaboration among educators.

• Skilled in mentoring, supporting, and motivating young people and programme leaders.

Educational and Youth Work Competencies

• Knowledge of youth development and informal education methodologies.

• Experience creating educational resources and delivering training to educators or youth workers.

• Ability to guide and support youth movement workers and programme leaders.

• Experience in delivering or supporting Hadracha or leadership training programmes.

Hours: Full-time, with flexibility for evenings/weekends when required.

Annual leave: 21 days plus bank/public holidays, rising to 26 after 3 years’ service, plus Jewish festivals falling on working days.

Pension: Up to 7% employer contribution after two years’ service.
