Job Title: HR Assistant
Salary: £26,000 FTE (£15,000 for 0.6 FTE)
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE)
Location: All Lakeland Arts museums in Bowness and Kendal with the option to work from home some days
Reporting to: HR and People Manager
Term: Part time, permanent

Purpose

Are you an organised and approachable professional who thrives on supporting people and processes? We are looking for an HR Assistant who will play a vital role in delivering effective and efficient HR support across our organisation.

Our HR team works closely with managers across the organisation to ensure staff feel supported at every stage of their journey, from onboarding and performance management to payroll and beyond.

Supporting the strategic objectives of Lakeland Arts, this role will provide first-line advice and guidance on HR matters, ensure accurate and timely administration of HR processes, and maintain high-quality records to enable effective workforce management.

The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to balance routine processes with the flexibility to respond to the changing needs of a dynamic cultural organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support recruitment processes, including administration, correspondence, pre-employment checks, interviews, and contracts.

  • Act as first point of contact for HR-related queries, monitoring HR and Jobs inboxes and escalating where needed.

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases, including absence and holiday tracking.

  • Prepare monthly payroll information and assist with employee compensation and benefits documentation.

  • Provide administration support for HR training programmes, workshops, and staff/volunteer surveys.

  • Coordinate induction and orientation for new staff.

  • Compile HR data and prepare reports for the HR and People Manager.

  • Assist with HR communications, events, meetings, and policy updates.

  • Oversee HR processes such as onboarding, probation reviews, appraisals, and leaver administration, ensuring managers are supported and deadlines met.
