About this role:
We are seeking a dynamic and confident Trainer and Training Development Officer to join our small and values-led team at Difference North East. This new role will support our growing training offer on disability rights, equality, access, and inclusion.
You will deliver and develop high-quality training for a wide range of audiences, from local authorities and arts venues to small community groups and voluntary organisations. You will be responsible for promoting our training as a commercial opportunity across the North East, helping to generate income and build relationships that support our mission.
This role will suit someone who is passionate about disability rights, confident delivering training, and creative in their approach to development and outreach. You will work closely with our Director and wider staff team and be guided by the lived experience and expertise of our members.
About the organisation:
Difference North East is a disability rights charity covering the North East of England. Our objectives are to end discrimination, increase service access, and change perceptions of disability. We work on a policy level to achieve these objectives and actively campaign for disability rights. We are a small organisation, but we are growing, and we have reached a point where we want to strengthen our training offer.
Key Responsibilities: Training Delivery
Deliver existing disability-related training sessions (e.g. equality, access, inclusive practice), both online and in person.
Adapt existing training materials to suit different audiences and settings.
Ensure sessions are inclusive, engaging and rooted in the social model of disability.
Training Development
Create new training sessions or modules based on emerging needs, requests or strategic priorities.
Incorporate feedback from participants, partners and Difference members to improve training content.
Work with colleagues and members to co-produce training where appropriate.
Marketing & Promotion
Promote the organisation’s training offer as a commercial opportunity, at least to ensure covering your own costs to the organisation [approximately £25,000].
Build relationships with prospective clients across the North East, including councils, cultural organisations, and businesses.
Maintain accurate records of enquiries, bookings and feedback.
Organisational Support
Work closely with the Director to respond to ad hoc training requests and opportunities.
Contribute to planning, reporting, and evaluating training work as needed.
Represent Difference in a professional and positive way.
Person Specification (Summary)
We are especially interested in applicants who:
- Have experience delivering training to varied audiences
- Have lived experience of disability
- Understand disability rights and the social model of disability
- Are confident working independently and as part of a team
- Are able to build relationships with clients and promote a values-led offer
- Are comfortable using online platforms such as Zoom, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.
