St Antony’s College is recruiting for a Lodge Porter. The Porters’ Lodge operates 24 hours a day 365 days of the year, and provides a reception, telephone call handling, mail distribution, health and safety, and security service for the College. As the first point of contact for visitors, the Lodge Porter is key to providing a professional service and welcome to the College.

Working as part of a team of six, the Lodge Porter provides assistance and information to all visitors to the Lodge, operates the College telephone switchboard, checks in guests, receives cash and card payments, and processes lost property. The post holder ensures that the College’s security procedures are followed, operates and monitors CCTV equipment, ensures the safe custody of keys, cash and documents, monitors and responds to alarm system activations, and acts as a First Aider and Fire Marshal whilst on duty in the College. The Lodge Porter is responsible for receiving, sorting and distributing incoming mail, despatching outgoing mail from Centres and Departments, and re-directing mail to current and ex-members of the College, as well as overseeing the operation of photocopying and fax facilities within the Lodge. The post holder keeps up to date with events, conferences, and other activities within the College, and offers advice and assistance with audio/visual and associated equipment within meeting and seminar rooms.

To be successful in your application, you will have a friendly, welcoming and professional manner, and the ability to provide excellent customer service. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able engage effectively with a wide range of people, and work well as part of a team. The successful candidate with have strong organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and an understanding of how to deal appropriately with confidential matters. Sound computer skills will be essential, as will an enthusiasm for working in an international, multicultural environment, and a flexible approach to working hours and arrangements. Recent relevant experience, particularly in a front of house, reception, or security capacity, would be advantageous.

This is a full-time post (41.3 hours per week on average).

The Lodge Porter will be paid £28,355 gross p.a. plus £1,730 p.a. Oxford weighting allowance. A night shift premium of £21 will be paid for each night shift worked, and overtime will be paid at double the normal basic rate. There is a probationary period of three months.
