Lecturer in Art & Design Fine Art Practice (0.6 Maternity Cover)

The post holder will act as Course Leader for the Fine Art Practice degree based on the Jobs Well Campus in Carmarthen. The post holder will join a team of Art & Design staff within the School. The post provides an excellent opportunity to combine exceptional skills in teaching and learning within a creative environment with rigorous co-ordination. The post holder will teach across a range of Levels from Level 3 up to Degree Level 6.

Key Responsibilities

You will be required to:

  • Undertake the teaching, learning and assessment of Art, Design and Fine Art Practice.
  • Teach into the portfolio of BA Hons. Programmes and Further Education courses within the curriculum area as requested by the curriculum area management team;
  • Have an in-depth knowledge and experience of Fine Art Practice;
  • Have a good working knowledge of historical developments and contemporary practice within the field;
  • Lead the BA Hons Fine Art Practice team;
  • Contribute to the marketing of the curriculum area courses within local schools, feeder FE colleges and other institutions throughout the country;

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
  • Willingness to represent the college and curriculum area at external events and exhibitions
  • Willingness to accompany students on study visits
  • Willingness to represent the course on open evenings/days
    and other marketing events

Desirable Criteria:

  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of 
    young people
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable

Coleg Ceredigion was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. The college merged with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a subsidiary company in 2014. The college has an annual turnover of £6m and employs around 180 staff.
