Salary: £35k pa

Hours: Full Time Monday – Friday (37 hours)

Purpose of the Role

Carers Trust Heart of England’s core aim is to support unpaid carers and their families by
providing  the  highest  possible  quality  services,  information,  advice,  and  support.
Supporting  unpaid  carers  to  have  a  life  alongside  their  caring  role  and  to  access  the
support they need.

The Head of Day Services will provide strategic and operational leadership to develop and
deliver high-quality, person-centred day services across Carers Trust Heart of England’s
area of operation. The service is designed to provide meaningful activities, support, and
respite for people with a wide range of needs — including dementia, acquired brain injury,
physical disabilities, and learning disabilities — while giving unpaid carers valuable breaks.

The postholder will play a key role in overseeing the expansion of the service into a five-
day-a-week  provision  across  multiple  locations,  ensuring  its  sustainability,  quality,  and
impact. They will build strong relationships with carers, families, funders, and a wide range

of  partners  to  ensure  the  service  meets  community  needs  and  grows  in  line  with  the
organisation’s vision, mission, and values.

Key Responsibilities

•  Provide  inspirational  leadership  and  day-to-day  management  of  the  day  services,

ensuring a safe, inclusive, and person-centred approach.

•  Drive the expansion of services, developing new locations and growing provision to

five days per week.

•  Work  in  partnership  with  carers,  families,  and  service  users  to  ensure  the  service

reflects their needs, preferences, and aspirations.

•  Develop and maintain positive relationships with funders, commissioners, community

partners, and other stakeholders.

•  Ensure  compliance  with  all  relevant  regulations,  safeguarding  standards,  and  best

practice in care and support.

•  Lead and support staff teams  through recruitment and induction  to  then  delivering
high-quality  services,  fostering  a  culture  of  learning,  development,  and  continuous
improvement, including undertaking staff supervision and appraisals.

•  Monitor and evaluate service quality, impact, and outcomes, providing regular reports
internally and externally as required taking into account GDPR and other regulatory
considerations.

•  Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring services are sustainable and cost-

Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation, partnership, and additional funding
to strengthen and grow services.

•  Champion equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding across all areas of work.
•  Be  prepared  to  on  occasion  attend  events  or  activities  outside  of  core  hours  e.g.

evenings and/or weekends.

Other Duties

•  To ensure that all activities undertaken on behalf of Carers Trust Heart of England,
externally  or  internally,  are  executed  in  accordance  with  the  overall  aims  of  the
organisation and in line with policies and procedures.

•  To undertake these duties in a framework that recognises the diversity of employees

•  To undertake any other duties as delegated which are deemed appropriate within the
grade and responsibilities of the post following consultation with the postholder.
•  Where  appropriate  to  monitor  ongoing  environmental  health  and  safety  issues,

reporting repairs and defects as appropriate.

Person Specification: Head of Day Services

Essential
•  Significant experience of managing and developing services within social care, health,

or community support settings.

•  Proven track record in service growth, development, or multi-site management.
•  Excellent  communication  and  interpersonal  skills,  with  the  ability  to  build  strong,

trusting relationships with carers, families, funders, and partners.

•  Strong  leadership  and  people  management  skills,  with  the  ability  to  inspire  and

motivate teams.

•  Sound  knowledge  of  safeguarding,  regulatory  frameworks,  and  best  practice  in

supporting people with diverse and complex needs.

•  Financial  and  resource  management  experience,  including  budget  planning  and

reporting.

•  Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into action.
•  Car driver and have access to own vehicle.

Desirable
•  Relevant professional qualification in health, social care, or management.
•  Knowledge of the challenges faced by unpaid carers and the impact of caring roles.
•  Experience in partnership working with local authorities, NHS,  and voluntary sector

organisations.

•  Familiarity with commissioning processes and contract management.
