It is one of the UK’s most significant historic Botanic Gardens which has remarkably remained intact since 1829. Our aim is to be a visitor attraction of choice in Birmingham. The Gardens is an independent educational charity aiming to offer world class environmental education in a green environment to audiences in all sectors of the community. ROLE PURPOSE Our in-house Cleaning Team will be important members of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens Team. You will ensure that the highest level of cleanliness is offered to visitors and staff on site, helping to create a positive and safe visitor experience. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Deliver an outstanding first impression for all visitors to Birmingham Botanical Gardens ensuring that all areas are clean and tidy • Follow a cleaning schedule to ensure all areas are cleaned on a regular basis. Tasks will include: cleaning floors using manual or mechanical cleaning equipment (e.g. mops, vacuum cleaners, floor cleaners); dusting and tidying assigned areas; cleaning and disinfecting washrooms; cleaning/washing doors and windows; emptying bins and maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness • Be fully familiar with the range of cleaning products on site, and fully read and sign to agree to all instructions relating to chemicals used within the cleaning team • Be punctual for work and stick to the schedule • To politely answer any basic questions from visitors to the garden, mostly way finding and general information about opening/closing times • Ensure that areas are cleaned thoroughly and to a high standard, speaking with the Head of Facilities or the Duty Manager to report anything broken or needing further attention. • Highlight areas that are in need of a deep clean, liaising with the Head of Facilities or Duty Manager as required. To advise the Head of Facilities when stocks of cleaning materials are running low, or when equipment needs changing or replacing • To use relevant PPE and equipment provided and to undertake any training specific to the role • Be confident to use the onsite Radios and to respond to any cleaning emergencies in a timely fashion • Assist with any deep cleans with the Facilities Team • To understand and support the aims and objectives of Birmingham Botanical Gardens and to ensure these are reflected in the delivery of the role. WORKING CONDITIONS Within a customer environment including children. Weekends, Bank Holidays, early mornings and some evenings will be required. Work in hot or cold/internal and external environments. This includes outdoor settings, as our Events occur all year round across the site – including during winter. Manual handling – training will be given. PERSON SPECIFICATION Area Essential Desirable Knowledge Understands the importance of PPE and reading labels on chemicals Has high standards of cleanliness and hygiene Previous cleaning experience Has cleaned toilets, offices, public areas, retail and events spaces Punctual and hard working Can read English to an acceptable level to read instructions on cleaning chemicals Able to work as part of a team or to the instructions of BBG Managers Accuracy and attention to detail Pro-active and uses initiative Reliable and trustworthy Experience Skills Other` Has undertaken training on the use of chemicals and the handling of cleaning products Has cleaned in a public- facing visitor attraction Confident to interact effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors Can identify cleaning materials needed for different areas, including washrooms, public areas, floors, windows etc To apply, please send an up-to-date CV and covering letter to: jobs@birminghambotanicalgardens.org.uk The closing date is Tuesday 11th November, at midday.
