Purpose of the Position

WBR seeks a Data Analyst to support the SII team with the management and analysis of data related to research, monitoring, and evaluation of WBR and Buffalo programs and partner programs. They will work closely with the Research and Evaluation Manager and Monitoring and Database Manager to clean, process, and analyze the data undertaken by WBR and partners.  The Data Analyst will also work with M&E Managers to prepare data to inform reporting, storytelling, communications, marketing, program quality improvement and the learning agenda.

Responsibilities

Research and Analysis Support:

  • Conducts analysis of data, including from household surveys (cross-sectional and panel), market surveys, and administrative datasets.
  • Supports analysis of complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support decision-making.
  • Provides remote support to Monitoring and Evaluation Managers during data collection activities, including undertaking data quality checks and ensuring proper entry of data in MDC platforms and communication with enumerators, as required.
  • Collaborates with M&E Managers, the Global Research Manager, and Social Enterprise teams to understand data needs and provide analytical support.
  • Cleans and validates data from multiple sources to ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Collates, structures, and enables integration of multiple different types of data sets for analysis
  • Conducts analytics for reports and internal needs.
  • Conducts secondary research, including reviews of academic and non-academic literature, on topics relevant to program and research design.

Capacity Building and Data Management

  • Provides training and technical support to M&E Managers and M&E Officers on data analysis, management, and data interpretation.
  • Assists M&E Managers with preparing clear and concise reports to communicate findings to various stakeholders.
  • Provides support in data quality assurance and validation processes, including regular data audits, consistency checks, and accuracy verification to ensure the integrity and reliability of Monitoring data in Salesforce
  • Assists with maintaining and updating data and report files.
  • Together with M&E Managers, ensures the safekeeping and privacy of all data collected and managed by the SII team.
  • Maintains data privacy standards and protocols

Research Dissemination:

  • Coordinates with the SII team on data dissemination including: report writing, data inputs into dashboards, generate PowerPoints or visualizations.
  • Together with broader SII team, assists with responding to Marketing, Communication, Program, and Partnership requests for data inputs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience with advanced data analysis (e.g., correlations, regressions).
  • Demonstrated full toolkit of data management and analytics (e.g., cleaning, structuring, validating, statistical analyses, advanced analytics)
  • Ability to work with complex data sets and understand how to transform and combine disparate data to enable effective analytics, including household survey data.
  • Experience collecting, managing, and/or analyzing data collected from national health and education systems (DHIS2, eMIS)
  • Strong comfort with, and experience in, retrieving, structuring, analyzing, and visualizing data across most well-establish data analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, R, Advanced Excel)
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining data quality utilizing best practices
  • Ability to translate data insights and outputs into appropriate, consumable formats (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, e-mails, SharePoint, Prezi)
  • Experience with the use of data collection platforms, such as SurveyCTO, Kobotoolbox, and ODK.
  • Demonstrated experience with research on development themes, e.g., health, education, poverty, inequality, unemployment, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated experience with use of Stata for statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with drafting research reports.
  • Experience working in a non-governmental organisation setting.

Desirable

  • Experience collecting and analysing qualitative data.
  • Experience with research on mobility and transportation modes, rural livelihoods, education, health, and socio-economic conditions.
  • Experience with fieldwork and primary data collection.

Travel: 15% Travel within operating countries or their own country.

Work Location: Work location based in one of our Operating Countries (Colombia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi or Zambia)
