Network Systems Administrator, you’ll be at the centre of this digital ecosystem — designing, developing, and safeguarding the systems that keep our staff and students connected, secure, and inspired. - Provide 3rd line quality support for both hardware and software for College staff, students and associated organizations to identify and fix software, hardware and internet related faults quickly and efficiently
- To accurately log all problems/requests on the college helpdesk system
- Take responsibility for managing helpdesk calls, resolution of faults and the implementation of any requests for change
- To take ownership of user problems and be pro-active when dealing with user issues
- To take responsibility for conducting internal and external network, server, applications, device vulnerabilities, web and mobile technology vulnerability scans and security reviews
- Design, development, programming, and unit testing of software applications and systems fitting within an overall architecture ensuring system reliability, stability, response time, scalability, security, and ease of maintenance
- Develop and support custom scripts to automate systems administration tasks including server and data backups, server log monitoring and testing and deployment of applications
- Installation, configuration and support new hardware and software applications
- To undertake continuous monitoring and development of the college network infrastructure
- To undertake daily maintenance and problem resolution, operating system patches, software upgrades, and routine hardware configuration
- Stay current with the latest technologies and security trends, making recommendations for future upgrades.
- Creation and maintenance of system documentation and specifications
- Assist in transition of newly developed applications to support staff
- To continually develop the college network and systems to enhance the experience of staff and students
- To ensure the Computer Services department has an adequate disaster recovery and cyber security plan, which includes the testing of processes and procedures
- To design, develop and integrate the current and new college systems
- Provide technical expertise, advice and guidance on all aspects of design and technology within your remit
- Responsible for the physical installation, racking, cabling, and configuration of server and network hardware, ensuring secure, organised, and reliable data centre environments. Performs hands-on setup, testing, documentation, and maintenance of infrastructure equipment while following industry safety and best-practice standards.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Academic qualifications may include BTEC HNC/HND in an IT related subject and/or Professional qualifications in Microsoft/Microfocus or Linux environments.
- Relevant experience and practical knowledge of IT at work
- Experience of network and system management applications and tools
- Experience of liaising with 3rd party hardware and software suppliers
- Knowledge of current trends in cyber security and experience implementing security measures
- Solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, routing and switching, wireless networking, and network security
- Solid understanding of installing, configuring and supporting server operating systems including Linux and Windows
- Proven experience of installing software applications and automating the process
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in problem, error and knowledge management analysis, resolution and delivery techniques
- Experience of support and wired and wireless network infrastructure
- Analytical approach when solving problems
- Ability to problem solve, either alone or within a team
- High degree of self-motivation
- Diplomacy and tact
- Excellent customer support skills
- Excellent Telephone Manner

- Able to plan, schedule and monitor own work to meet the requirements of the customers
Desirable Criteria:
- Fluency in Welsh
- Experience of the BGP routing protocol
- Experience of Identity management systems
- Experience of managed a virtual infrastructure
- Ability to understand, update and write command line scripts using PHP and bash
Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable

In 2013 it became Coleg Sir Gar Ltd, a company within the University of Wales: Trinity Saint David Group, and part of a regional Dual Sector University. The College has an annual turnover of over £35m and employs around 800 staff.
Coleg Ceredigion was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. The college merged with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a subsidiary company in 2014. The college has an annual turnover of £6m and employs around 180 staff.

The College is based in South West Wales and has seven main campuses at Llanelli (Graig), Carmarthen (Pibwrlwyd and Jobs Well), Ammanford, Llandeilo (Gelli Aur), Aberystwyth and Cardigan. The College is also home to Carmarthen School of Art which has its origins dating back to 1854.
