JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Kitchen Assistant Hours: 12 hours per week (4hrs per day) – Monday, Wed & Friday (school term time only). Salary: £NMW - £12.94. Location of work: Kirkby We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at our college for young adults with disabilities / addional needs. This role is vital to the smooth operation of our college canteen, where we serve daily lunchtime meals to our learners. You will work as part of a small, friendly team to ensure high standards of food preparation, cleanliness, and customer service. Your key responsibilities will include assisting with the preparation of meals while maintaining high hygiene and food safety standards, serving food to students, and operating the till to handle transactions accurately. You will also be responsible for cleaning kitchen equipment, washing dishes, and ensuring the kitchen and canteen areas are kept clean and tidy. Flexibility is key, as you will support the kitchen team with a variety of general duties to help ensure a smooth and efficient service for our learners. We are looking for someone with a flexible and proactive approach to work, who can adapt to the varied demands of a busy kitchen environment. The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. While previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage, but it is not essential. Location of work: Kirkby The main duties will be: • Help with preparing lunches • Maintain health, hygiene and safety when storing and preparing food • Keeping food service and food preparation areas clean and tidy • Help prepare hot food dishes • Prepare hot and cold sandwiches/salads/pastas etc. • Store and put away new stock, ensuring it is rotated properly to prevent any items from going out of date. • Set up and close kitchen • Serve students from kitchen service area • Working on the till • Cleaning of dishes including operating dishwasher. • Clean the kitchen area, including sweeping and mopping floors with disinfectants, sanitising countertops and food preparation areas, emptying bins, and replacing liners • Cleaning of the canteen area includes brushing and mopping floors with disinfectants, clearing away crockery and cutlery, and wiping down tables. • Assist in unloading and storing deliveries • Carry out such other duties that may be allocated from time to time.
