Job Title: Major Donor Officer Salary Range: £35,000 - £40,000 Responsible To: Head of Philanthropy 1. Job Summary The Major Donor Officer plays a vital role in generating voluntary income for Kisharon Langdon by managing their own portfolio of high net-worth donors and prospects to meet income targets. The job involves getting to know the portfolio and developing appropriate strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward donors, while also working to build a pipeline of new prospects. The post- holder will network internally and externally to seek support with their work and use the database to record activity and monitor performance against objectives set within the context of the fundraising and organisational strategies. 2. Key Tasks Manage a portfolio of donors through a journey of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to secure major gifts of £5,000 or more, which meet personal and departmental income targets. Identify and research prospective new donors and develop appropriate strategies to engage and cultivate them to ensure a healthy donor pipeline. Network and collaborate both internally and externally, with colleagues, volunteers, senior leaders and other relevant stakeholders to gather input and support with the donor journey. Use the Raiser’s Edge database as a tool to find and research new donors, monitor performance and maintain accurate, up-to-date records. Page 1 of 4 4. Operational Tasks Become familiar with the portfolio and get to know each donor, then develop plans and strategies for engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Implement those plans by proactively engaging with each donor and – ultimately – ask for (and secure) major donations of £5,000 or more, either personally, or through a Lay Canvasser. Maintain a proactive, inquisitive approach to finding new donors by – among other things – looking at the database, networking internally and externally, and generally staying informed about people in and around the Jewish philanthropic community. Record donor plans, interactions, notes and income accurately in the Raiser’s Edge database, in a timely manner and use a range of tools to monitor day-to-day tasks and performance. Collaborate and work in partnership with other fundraising colleagues and teams, supporting them where necessary and playing an active role in team discussions, meetings, events, etc. Complete all mandatory training as and when required and take a proactive approach to professional development by seeking out and completing other relevant training and generally staying informed and updated about developments in the sector. 5. Communications Build relationships with donors to understand their communication preferences and interact with them effectively in a way they welcome and appreciate. Report to the Head of Philanthropy in an open and timely manner, providing information and updates on performance, income, etc. to give a clear picture of current workload, including achievements and challenges. Work collaboratively with the Major Donor Administrator to receive appropriate support, especially on income processing, monitoring and acknowledgement. Communicate specific requirements, e.g. for information, statistics, collateral, etc., to relevant colleagues in a timely way, adhering to their systems and processes as far as reasonably possible. Network internally and externally to become familiar with the organisation, stay abreast of developments in the community and help others understand the needs of the fundraising team 6. Finance Be accountable for personal income performance, monitoring it regularly and reporting in a timely manner to the Head of Philanthropy as required, and highlighting any problems or issues at the earliest possible opportunity. Learn about the organisation, and departmental income and expenditure figures, and the funding needs that arise from them, to be aware of the “big picture” financially. 7. Organisation Skills Specialist Skills Other Experience of using a database or CRM system to record and track donor / customer / client interactions. Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities. Able to keep accurate notes and records to manage day- to-day tasks. Able to record and monitor income performance and report accurately to others. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and programmes, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
