After a successful grant application with the National Lottery Community Fund, we are recruiting three Trauma Informed Practitioners.
This position will be responsible for building and progressing a trauma-informed support service to children affected by parental imprisonment, working with their families and promoting and supporting the IWCIC School Zone service across four Welsh prison estates.
The role will carry a case load with set targets, prioritising referrals within timelines and identifying new referrals.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully assess, engage and motivate appropriate participants into the School Zone services. This will include prisoner, child and carer of the child.
- To provide a trauma informed response to all aspects of work - both in custody and the community.
- Actively contribute to the three core outcomes of IW: Reducing reoffending, reducing intergenerational crime, and increasing positive community inclusion.
- Attend and actively participate in regular supervision sessions with the Schools and Prisons Manager.
- Accurately record all data relevant to the role, including required research data.
- Comply with all policies, including: Health and Safety, Child Protection, Safeguarding, Data Protection, DEEI, etc.
- To identify and triage referrals.
- Work across both custody and community, to provide initial engagement with families, focussing on the connection with schools.
- To liaise with other IWCIC colleagues across HMP Parc, HMP Cardiff, HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed to align continuity of referrals.
- Help facilitate and coordinate a Family Education Exchange twice in each academic year at the 4 establishments.
- Deliver peer groups sessions with fathers in custody, focussing on education - during and after custody.
- Liaise and meet with schools in the community, offering awareness-raising and guidance related to children with incarcerated parents.
- Liaise with internal departments to secure the delivery of the Family Education Exchange.
- Coordinate the receipt of school reports and set up virtual calls between fathers and their children’s schools..
- Involvement in the development and delivery of family and education focussed interventions as required.
- Make safeguarding referrals as necessary, report all safeguarding concerns and risks to the IW Designated Safeguarding Officer.
- Maintain regular contact with all participants throughout the length of the service delivery.
- Maintain an appropriate level of information sharing with schools, particularly relating to safeguarding issues.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the service leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
