About Women X Festival
Women X Film Festival is dedicated to celebrating women and non binary filmmakers and advancing gender equity in the film industry.
Despite progress, gender imbalance remains a major issue in our industry: for example, only around 28% of narrative films programmed at major festivals are directed by women, highlighting the ongoing need for change, and why we work hard with our festival to push for this.
The festival is a community driven event powered by the passion of volunteers, including our senior leadership team who come from a diverse background and are dedicated to breaking down barriers especially socio-economical ones, as many of us had little access to film before working our way into the industry.
Held annually each September, the festival takes place in Darlington in the North of England, and has landed on Filmfreeway’s top 100 list and is part of the BIFA list of accrediated festivals. We programme a rich variety of genres and storytelling styles, and host events such as panels, crafting and our low cost family screenings to inspire children to engage in film.
