Digital Innovation Trustee

We are looking for a Digital Innovation Trustee.

Role Type: Voluntary

Location: London

Renumeration: While the role of a Trustee is not remunerated, reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

About us

Our vision is a world where women and girls lead safe, just and equal lives. Advance is a women’s organisation delivering systems change, and trauma and gender-informed community-based support for women and girls affected by domestic abuse, including those in contact with the criminal justice system. We work nationally through our innovative, best-practice approach and systems change initiatives. We deliver wraparound frontline services across the South and East of England, including Greater London.

We are looking to appoint a new Trustee to the Board with skills specifically focused on Digital Innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Support Advance’s aim to continue delivering innovative services and provide strategic guidance on digital transformation
  • Provide strategic advice on improving the digital experience for clients, including accessibility and usability
  • Guide the adoption of new technologies to streamline operations (e.g. CRM systems, case management, data collection)
  • Help assess and manage risks related to digital change, including data security, and staff readiness to adopt
  • Bring insight into cost-effective and scalable digital solutions especially for a not-for-profit like Advance
  • Encourage a culture of digital confidence, continuous learning, and inclusion across the organisation

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our experienced and committed Board.

You will join a dedicated and skilled group of Trustees and support the charity through a significant period of growth. Our staff team now includes over 150 skilled and passionate women across our programmes and our 10 womens’ centres in London and the South and East of England.

Experience required

  • Experience in digital service design, delivery, or transformation either in charity of commercial organisations in particular support cross-sector innovation
  • Understanding of user needs and digital accessibility
  • Familiarity with tools and processes for operational improvement, e.g. workflow automation, cloud systems
  • Strategic thinking with a practical approach to implementation
  • Advise on digital infrastructure, supplier oversight, and appropriate technology investments
  • Experience with digital tools, artificial intelligence and organisational change is desirable
  • Successful experience of operating within a board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation
  • Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives
  • A proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision-making
  • A history of impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
  • A track record of commitment to promoting equality and diversity

Knowledge, skills and understanding required

  • Commitment to the organisation and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  • Preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the board, and a willingness to speak their mind
  • Willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis
  • Good, independent judgement and strategic vision
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • An understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees and Chief Executive
