Department Board of Lectureship
SUMMARY
This position supports and facilitates lecturers and branches in developing countries in the planning and implementation of lecture activities including strengthening branches’ ability to plan and host lectures. The incumbent must be able to communicate the BoL vision for lectures with lecturers, branches, informal groups, and individual members in international fields, as well as work from a metaphysical basis in their support of new and existing lecture activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe incumbent will make appropriate time daily to pray in support of the lecture activity globally and respond prayerfully to needs that arise, including requests for specific prayerful support of lecturers.
Lecture Facilitation (40%)
- Coordinates lectures in developing “tour” countries, including lectures where funding is partially or almost fully provided by the BoL.
- Proposes and monitors progress of tours in each tour country and collaborates with other departments who are facilitating activities in similar areas.
- Serves as liaison between lecturers and branches on inquiries and lecture details as needed.
- Directly coordinates with lecturers on travel logistics, venue details, visas, and resources needed to conduct lecture activities, as necessary.
Communications (20%)
- Establishes and maintains regular contacts with lecturers and lecture committee chairs in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe through phone calls, emails, and relevant communication channels.
- Maintains a current understanding of the challenges – including geographical, governmental, political, logistical – in support of branches, informal groups, and CSOs throughout Africa and in other developing countries.
Financial Liaison (20%)
- Handles the processing of the financial transactions of the department; works with the financial analyst representative (FP&A) assigned to the BoL, and Contracts & Procurement (C&P).
- Submits well-documented expense reports and purchase orders for approval within accounting systems.
- Acts as a financial liaison for the BoL.
General Support (20%)
- Serves as a cross-functional team member on the staff supporting the BoL and collaborates on a wide range of lecture activities, including: reporting current activities, processing feedback, identifying new areas of improvement.
- Advises other departments when appropriate.
- Collaborates across TMC departments in supporting global Christian Science initiatives.

Regular Contacts:This position has regular contact with members of the Board of Lectureship and staff, Clerk’s office, Treasurer’s office, IIPT, OLS, International Services Development (ISD), CSPS and The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, Committee on Publication, Board of Education, and members of The Mother Church and occasionally acts as a consultant on Africa to the Christian Science Board of Directors.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
College degree or equivalent, and at least three years of service in branch churches. Several years of experience in customer service, communications, or related fields preferred.
Knowledge/SkillsFluency in multiple languages (French and/or Spanish particularly useful). Familiarity with one or more cultures outside of the USA preferred, typically gained by having lived outside of the United States. Must be familiar with and adept at communicating the mission and purpose of The First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Technology SkillsGood working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Google systems is required. Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Trello and Slack are also helpful. Facility with websites.
Work EnvironmentThis position is based in Boston and regularly works in an office environment, with some opportunities for international travel.
Christian Science RequirementsMembership in The Mother Church required; Primary Class instruction preferred. Must have a good understanding of the theology and mission of Christian Science, and understand how its relevance is communicated to the world through the activities of the Board of Lectureship.
Pay range: $87,428.00 – $113,655.80 annually
The pay ranges disclosed in our job postings are the compensation ranges the Church reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for a given position at the time of posting.
The offered salary will be determined by factors such as the applicant’s relevant education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities; and benchmarking, work location, and internal equity.
