At Nuffield Health, we’re committed to building a healthier nation. As the UK’s largest healthcare charity, everything we do is shaped by our purpose – to improve the health and wellbeing of people and communities. From our award-winning hospitals and fitness centres to our digital health initiatives, we’re dedicated to delivering exceptional care and long-term impact.
We are entering an exciting period of transformation, as we modernise our technology, data, and operating models to better connect our people, systems, and services. This multi-year programme will strengthen our foundations, enhance our digital capabilities, and ensure we continue to provide safe, innovative, and patient-centred care across our network.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Systems Analyst / Technical Business Analyst to join our Technology & Transformation team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. You’ll be part of a core project team, working alongside a Project Manager and Solution Architect, focused on upgrading our technology across the organisation. This is a critical role that will help lay the groundwork for future initiatives by investigating and documenting our current technical landscape. You’ll work across software, hardware, databases, and servers to understand how systems interact, identify risks and dependencies, and support the planning of secure, effective upgrades across Nuffield Health.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead on technical analysis and system mapping to understand how software, hardware, databases, and servers are configured and interconnected.
-
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and cyber teams to validate technical flows, dependencies, and upgrade implications.
-
Engage with stakeholders across IT, clinical, and operational areas to capture and validate requirements, ensuring alignment to business objectives.
-
Develop clear and structured documentation, including system diagrams, data flows, and technical inventories, to support planning and delivery.
-
Support the creation of business cases, options appraisals, and impact assessments for proposed upgrades or decommissioning activities.
-
Collaborate closely with the Solution Architect to ensure technical designs meet business needs, compliance requirements, and long-term strategic goals.
-
Contribute to project planning, testing, and implementation activities within an agile-inspired delivery model.
-
Support risk, issue, and dependency tracking across workstreams.
-
Help define KPIs and success measures to assess business value and post-implementation benefits.
What We’re Looking For
-
Proven experience as a Systems Analyst or Technical Business Analyst within transformation or infrastructure programmes (3–5 years minimum).
-
Strong experience working with systems and infrastructure, including the ability to reverse-engineer undocumented environments.
-
Familiarity with databases, server architecture, and system integrations; able to work confidently with architects and technical SMEs.
-
Excellent analytical and documentation skills – able to translate complex technical environments into structured, actionable outputs.
-
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
-
Experience in healthcare, public sector, or regulated environments is advantageous but not essential.
-
Familiarity with cyber, infrastructure, or decommissioning projects (e.g. zero trust, network modernisation, SOC implementation) is desirable.
-
Confident working in a hybrid, fast-moving environment, managing ambiguity and competing priorities.
Personal Attributes
-
A self-starter, comfortable taking ownership and working proactively.
-
Collaborative and open, with a strong team ethic.
-
Detail-focused yet pragmatic, able to balance analysis with delivery.
-
Purpose-driven, motivated by improving systems that ultimately enhance patient care.

So, if they see that you’ve got the right sort of skills and experience needed for the role, your details will be passed on to the relevant hiring manager. Then, if you fit all the criteria at this stage, you’ll be invited to take part in a video, telephone or face-to-face interview.

Covering email
Your CV will contain details about why you’d be a good fit for the role, but it’s well worth adding a short, snappy paragraph pulling out the two or three most compelling reasons as to why you’d be perfect for the job in your covering email..

The video interview lasts 15-20 minutes if you get to this stage. On the day, look the part, be aware of your surroundings and practice your answers to feel prepared. Most of all, relax and be yourself.

Some of our roles require a DBS check and they are processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as part of the recruitment process. These checks are to assist employers in making safer recruitment decisions. However, a check is just one part of robust recruitment practice.
Documents
You could be asked to provide proof of vaccinations as part of our Occupational Health pre-employment screening. We know it can be time consuming to get this information if you don’t already have it to hand, so we encourage you to start preparing this information to avoid any delays to the onboarding process.
Your current studies
