OUR VALUES We enrich through a broad and varied curriculum Job Description Hockey Professional Head of Hockey Sports Job Title: Line Manager: Department: Job Summary To play a key role in supporting the delivery and continued development of hockey across the School. Working closely with the Head of Hockey and the Assistant Head of Hockey, to contribute to the planning and delivery of high-quality coaching sessions, individual player development, video analysis, and the organisation of fixtures, tournaments and indoor hockey programmes. Main Responsibilities Coaching & Player Development: • Alongside the Head of Hockey, plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality hockey sessions in Games and after school clubs. • Deliver 1-2-1 coaching for hockey players on the Tormead Talented Performer Programme. • Support Hockey Scholars with their development plans, including monitoring progress and setting development goals. • Coach, manage, and officiate school teams across a variety of age groups on match days. • Contribute to pre-season programmes and help prepare squads for fixtures for both indoor and outdoor competitions. • Model high-quality coaching standards, behaviour, and professionalism. Programme Support & Performance Analysis: • Evaluate own performance and be committed to improving own practice through CPD. • Engage actively in the performance review process. • Contribute to staff CPD within the department, sharing insights and best practice. • Complete video analysis, including clipping/organising footage for player and team review. • Assist with organising and running school tournaments, fixtures, and festivals. • Support the indoor hockey programme as appropriate, depending on experience. • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and aspirational training environment. Extended Coaching Opportunities: • Support Tormead Hockey Academy holiday and summer camps (paid additional work). • Access further coaching opportunities through the school’s partnership with Guildford Hockey Club, including training groups and club teams. • Help strengthen and maintain a positive, mutually beneficial link with Guildford HC. Operations, Outreach & Safeguarding: • Assist with logistics, equipment management, facility setup, and fixture preparation for hockey. GPET 12 25 Page 1 of 4 • Transport pupils to away fixtures when required. • Participate in hockey outreach initiatives and wider school engagement activities. • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, welfare, and duty of care at all times. General: • Use effective strategies for managing behaviour and encouraging students to act responsibly. • Maintain good order and discipline among students and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere. • Attend meetings as required (departmental, staff, pastoral, parent meetings, etc.). • Promote the school in a variety of different contexts, including attending curriculum and marketing events, and interactions with parents and prospective parents and students. • Assist with supervision and covering for absent colleagues when required. • Support students and colleagues by attending school productions, functions, trips and events as appropriate, and contributing to the wider co-curricular life of the School. • To promote and uphold the ethos and values of Tormead School. • Actively promote and model good practice in equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to support and uphold fundamental British values. • To adhere to all School policies, procedures, and risk assessments, including safeguarding, child protection and health and safety.
