We’re pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to join the newly formed Nursing Team on Richard Wells Ward at Bedford Hospital.

This role is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in surgical nursing and a commitment to delivering high-quality, holistic care within a multi-disciplinary setting. You’ll play a key part in shaping clinical standards and supporting the team through change and development.

We’re looking for a reliable practitioner with excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to leadership, and a strong foundation in continuous professional development (CPD). A proven record of CPD would be a distinct advantage.

Main duties of the job

Richard Wells Ward is a general surgical ward. It has 27 beds and is a facility that offering prompt evaluation of the patients presenting symptoms by appropriately skilled staff.

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking registered nurse to join the Team. You will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills. You must be a flexible and committed team player to facilitate a patient centred approach to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care. You will be supported to develop both your clinical and managerial skills and to continue your own professional development.

The successful candidate will fulfil all of the essential components of the person specification.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

  • To deputise for the Ward Manager and liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team both within the organisation and with external stakeholders, to ensure care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently.
  • Communicate proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment plan of patients and ensures accurate nursing records are maintained by all staff.
  • To lead and support others in co-ordinating the discharge process and ensures written and verbal advice is available to patient’s relatives and carers.
  • Actively involve others in communications between patients, their relatives and the multi-disciplinary team both within organisation and with external stakeholders and ensures excellent communication.
  • Ensure work with the Trust /unit and ward policies in order to maintain professional, clinical and patient safety.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN Level 1
  • ENB 998/MSSP or equivalent (or willing to undertake course)
  • Evidence of Continuing professional development
  • Current NMC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised course/experience in orthopaedic and surgical nursing or evidence of working towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Ability to deliver high quality nursing care
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Evidence of experience in Teaching & Mentorship
Desirable criteria
  • Robust knowledge of surgical care & treatments
