General Information

Spratton Hall is an IAPS day school for girls and boys.  Situated at the edge of the village
of Spratton, seven miles north of Northampton,  the  school is  surrounded by beautiful
rolling countryside.  The school was founded in 1951 by KC Hunter, as a boarding prep
school for 20 or so boys.  In 1974, girls were admitted.  At present, there are 395 pupils
in  the  school,  280  pupils  in  the  Prep  School  (Years  3-8)  and  115  pupils  in  the  Pre-
Preparatory Department (Reception to Year 2).

Set  in  50  beautiful  acres,  Spratton  Hall  is
blessed  with  exceptionally  good
facilities
throughout.   Whatever  a  child  does  in  the
school  they  can  be  assured  of  working  in
modern  and  well-resourced  classrooms  and
buildings and wonderful grounds.

There  are  two  classes
in  each  of
Reception and Year  2, and three classes
currently  in  Year  1.    In  the  Prep  School,
there  are  three  forms  in  Years  3  to  8
(though  currently  4  x  Year  6  classes),
with  an  average  of  fifteen  pupils  per
form.  From Year 3, pupils are placed in
sets  by  ability  for  Maths  and  English.
From Year 7 the classes are streamed for
ability  and  there  are  sets  for  English,
Maths and Science.

Information:
Spratton  Hall  is  fully  co-educational,  with  a
roughly  equal  split  between  boys  and  girls.
Most  pupils  leave  the  School  aged  thirteen,
and  proceed  to  their  first  choice  of  Senior
School.    The  most  popular  destinations  at
present  are  Rugby,  Uppingham,  Oakham,
Kimbolton  and  Oundle.  Usually,  around  40%
of our Year 8 leavers  go on to board at  their
next  school.    Over  sixty  pupils  have  won
Scholarships  and  Awards  in  the  last  four
years.

There  are  at  present  30  full-time  teaching  members  of  staff;  10  part-time  teaching  members  of
staff; 10 teaching assistants; 7 administrative staff; 2 school nurses; 9 catering staff; 5 estates and
grounds staff; a housekeeping team; 15 peripatetic music teachers.  The Senior Management Team
consists  of  the  Headmaster,  Deputy  Headmaster,  DFO,  Head  of  Pre-Prep,  Head  of  Pastoral  Care
(DSL);  Director of Studies, Senior Master and Senior Teacher.   Spratton  Hall  is administered by a
board of Governors who act as the trustees.

Inspection Reports and Awards

We have just been inspected and are awaiting
the report. In our last full Educational Quality
Inspection  in  2016,  we  were  adjudged  to  be
‘excellent’ in all areas. That report is here. Our

running  we  have  been  shortlisted  for  ‘Prep
School of the Year’ or ‘Pre-Prep of the Year’ in
The Guide to Independent Schools.

have  a  hard-working,  supportive  and  totally
committed  staff.    The  school  is  a  buoyant,
thriving  and  happy  place,  with  very  healthy
numbers of pupils.

Job Title:

Assistant Matron

The Post

Spratton  Hall  School  is  seeking  to  appoint  a  part-time  Assistant  Matron  (ideally,  a  qualified
nurse) on a permanent contract from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible afterwards.

The  preferred  hours  are  Tuesday  and  Thursday  afternoons  from  12.30pm  to  5.30pm  (with
occasional later evenings to stay for a concert or production) and Saturday home sports fixtures
(these  might  be  morning  or  afternoon  or  very  occasionally  both).  The  two  afternoons  would
ideally be Tuesday and Thursday, but other options can be taken into consideration.

Responsibilities:

•

In  conjunction  with  our  Senior  Matron,  provide  a  warm  environment  where  pupils  in
their care can feel safe and happy.

General Duties:

•  To oversee the medical care of all pupils, some of whom have a range of medical needs.
•  To  provide  First  Aid  for  all  pupils,  staff  and  visitors  in  case  of  any  accidents  or

emergencies.

•  To  attend  all  Saturday  home  sporting  fixtures  and  be  positioned  at  pitch-side  for  the

start of the matches.

•  To assist with the management and care of sports injuries sustained by the pupils.
•  To be mindful of the pastoral care and mental well-being of all of the pupils.
•  To  assist  with  the  health  and  well-being  of  our  pupils,  following  up  with  parents  as

appropriate.

•  To maintain and record accurate documentation.
•  To adopt a flexible attitude to normal working hours.
•  From time to time, to deputise for the Senior Matron as required.

Health & Safety:

•  To be  aware  of the  school’s  guidelines  on  Health  &  Safety  alongside  the guidelines  on

fire protection.

•  To  co-operate  with  the  school  in  all  matters  concerning  Health  and  Safety  and
specifically to take reasonable care of their own Health & Safety, and that of any other
persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
