Automation No 3/Tech Swing (Barbican) (1590)

Do you have a good working knowledge of electrical and electronic automation control systems? Are you available to support at the Barbican between the end of September 2025 until the 19 January 2026?

We are looking for an experienced Automation Number 3 to assist with the day-to-day operation of the department and to participate in the deck plot when required. You will also be responsible for specific manual performer flying ropework for the RSC's 2025 Barbican season, of Wendy and Peter and Twelfth Night.

Reporting to the Head of Automation, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Participating in the smooth running of get-ins, fitting, installing, commissioning, programming, rehearsals, performances, changeovers and get-outs.
  • Ensuring repairs and replacements are carried out with the least disruption to stage schedules, including first line fault-finding and repair.
  • Maintaining an awareness of current Health and Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have:

  • Good working knowledge of the specification, setting up and operation of industry standard electrical and electronic control systems.
  • A good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation together with an understanding of theatre staging, stage engineering, rigging, slinging and flying.
  • Previous knowledge of, or participation in, Planned Preventative Maintenance procedures in automation systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a team.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 3 months which is based at the Barbican, London.
