We’re inviting applications for a 3-year part-time (65%) Doctoral Research Associate position as part of the interdisciplinary project “Extreme Adaptation to Climate Change.”
The project is based at the Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS) Cluster of Excellence, University of Hamburg.
The application deadline is 4 November 2025 and the start date is 1 April 2026.

The post will involve working closely with myself as supervisor alongside fellow PIs of the project. Full details of the position and how to apply are accessible here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/stellenangebote/ausschreibung.html?jobID=8473a8af0d513a6ad1b20173aaedfa70577776c1

Suffice it to say here that our project investigates how societies are anticipating, negotiating and confronting the challenges of severe climate change scenarios today through “extreme” adaptation strategies: planned, future-oriented, and drastic responses to the climate crisis devised and implemented collectively (e.g., by states, international organizations, community organizers).
Our aim is to examine these responses’ social acceptance and impacts particularly in the context of inequality and marginalization—the ways they redistribute vulnerability and the new conflicts they trigger.

Prospective applicants are welcome to contact me with informal inquiries about the position: eray.cayli@uni-hamburg.de
