Job Description Title and Grade of Post Reporting to Work Coach Careers Lead and Head of College Role Overview This is a key on-site role within Langdon College’s Careers and Employability provision. The Work Coach works closely with and reports to the Careers Lead, who has overall strategic responsibility for careers education and employer engagement across the College. While the Careers Lead oversees the development of the strategic Careers Plan, compliance with Gatsby Benchmarks, and partnership coordination, the Work Coach is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of employability programmes, work experience, and supported internships whilst on site. The postholder will be the main point of contact for students, employers, and staff at the College, ensuring that all placements and internships are safe, meaningful, and person-centred. Purpose of the Role To deliver high-quality, person-centred employability and careers support for students, focusing particularly on supported internships and work experience. The Work Coach will act as the on-site link between students, staff, employers, and families, ensuring all placements and internships are meaningful, inclusive, safe, and aligned with students’ personal development and employment goals. Key Responsibilities 1. Supported Internships and Work Placements ● Identify, develop, and maintain a range of suitable work experience and supported internship placements that reflect students’ skills, interests, and aspirations. ● Engage with employers to establish, support, and sustain high-quality placement and internship opportunities. ● Conduct workplace visits, Health & Safety checks, and risk assessments to ensure placements are safe and suitable. ● Work closely with employers, job coaches, and families to support students on placement, providing on-the-job coaching where appropriate. ● Prepare students for the workplace through employability sessions, travel training, and workplace readiness activities. ● Gather regular feedback from students and employers to support continuous improvement and celebrate success. ● Maintain accurate records of placements, internship progress, and outcomes in line with college systems. 2. Student Support and Guidance ● Provide individual and small-group support to help students identify and achieve personal career and employability goals. ● Promote independence, self-confidence, and resilience in students. ● Support the integration of employability and careers learning within the curriculum by working closely with teaching and therapy staff. ● Help students develop workplace behaviours, communication skills, and appropriate social interaction. ● Model professionalism and encourage a positive work ethic at all times. 3. Employer Engagement and Partnership ● Build and maintain positive relationships with local employers, supported employment agencies, and training providers. ● Promote Langdon College’s Supported Internship and employability offer to prospective partners. ● Support employers in making reasonable adjustments and providing inclusive, accessible opportunities. ● Represent the College at external meetings, careers events, and job fairs to strengthen local networks and opportunities for learners. 4. Monitoring and Evaluation ● Track and report student progress, placement attendance, and employer feedback. ● Contribute data and updates to the Careers Lead for inclusion in Gatsby Benchmark evaluations, Ofsted evidence, and destination tracking. ● Conduct evaluations of placements and supported internships to inform development of the College’s employability programme. ● Support the Careers Lead in maintaining accurate records of careers-related activities and outcomes. 5. Administration and Compliance ● Ensure all placement activities comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies. ● Maintain up-to-date records of risk assessments, agreements, and monitoring documentation. ● Use internal management systems (e.g. Compass+, GroFar, or internal databases) to log activities and outcomes. ● Complete and submit required reports or paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. 6. Professional Development ● Engage in continuing professional development relevant to supported employment, SEND, and careers education. ● Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and training sessions. ● Reflect on practice and share ideas for improving the College’s employability and supported internship offer. Role and band competencies Essential / Desirable Specific knowledge, experience and technical skills 1. Five GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English Level 3 qualification in Supported Employment or 2. willingness to work towards Certificate of attendance at a Job Coaching training 3. course or willingness to complete 4. Experience of successful employer engagement 5. Experience of working with young people with autism and/or learning disability in a learning environment 6. Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 7. Understanding PBS or related behavioural approaches 8. Experience of stakeholder management 9.
