Job Title: Reporting to: Work closely with: Direct reports: Casual Duty Manager (Zero Hours) Venue Manager Box Office and Administration Officer, Technical Team, General Manager Welcome Team Front of House Purpose of Role: To take primary responsibility for the efficient management of the Front of House operation, ensuring exceptional customer service is delivered by staff and volunteers, maintaining the safety and well-being of all visitors and team members, and ensuring that the building operates smoothly during events. The Duty Manager serves as the point of contact for any issues that arise and is responsible for opening and closing the venue as required. Key Responsibilities: Customer Service • Act as a keyholder, responsible for opening and closing the building securely. • Arrive punctually for shifts and attend or deliver the pre-event briefing. • Lead and supervise Front of House (FOH) staff and volunteers, delegating tasks effectively and ensuring that all duties are carried out to a high standard. • Create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, artists, and event participants. • Act as the primary liaison with artists, incoming companies, and production teams, ensuring that schedules and event requirements are met. • Ensure the café is fully stocked, clean, and operational before the audience arrives. • Provide hands-on support by serving customers, taking payments, and ensuring a high level of customer care in the café and box office. • Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner, adopting a proactive approach to problem-solving. • Oversee special requirements, such as accessible seating or additional audience needs, ensuring these are arranged before events begin. • Maintain a visible presence during events, supporting FOH operations and ensuring an enjoyable experience for all visitors. Health and Safety • Be responsible for the safety of all individuals in the building, ensuring compliance with health • and safety regulations. Lead safe and efficient evacuations during emergencies, following established evacuation procedures and liaising with emergency services as needed. • Monitor the condition of public spaces, identifying and addressing any risks or hazards (e.g., spillages, blocked exits). • Ensure all staff and volunteers are briefed on evacuation routes, safety protocols, and emergency procedures at the start of each shift. • Maintain and oversee the use of first aid kits, ensuring all incidents are logged in the accident book. Operational Management • Coordinate the setup and preparation of public spaces for events, meetings, and private hires, ensuring rooms are presented to a high standard. • Assist the technical team in preparing the theatre space before and after performances, as required. • Monitor the flow of customers at entrances, the box office, and the café/bar to ensure smooth operations and minimal waiting times. • Take responsibility for cash handling, including operating tills, reconciling takings at the end of shifts, and securing funds in the safe. • Use internal systems such as Upshot to input and update relevant data, including water and electricity readings. • Provide regular reports on events, including attendance figures, feedback, and operational notes. Team Leadership and Training • Deliver clear briefings to FOH staff and volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles, responsibilities, and emergency procedures. • Train new FOH team members as needed, covering key areas such as customer service, safety protocols, and operational tasks. • Foster a positive, collaborative working environment, demonstrating professionalism and teamwork at all times. • Monitor staff performance and provide guidance or feedback as necessary. General Duties • Ensure ‘[-the building is well-maintained during your shift, addressing or reporting any maintenance issues promptly. • Support Theatre Peckham’s wider mission of increasing access to the arts, ensuring that all visitors feel welcome and valued. • Perform any additional tasks as required by the Venue Manager to support the smooth running of events and operations. Skills/Attributes Essential: • Previous experience in a theatre, events, leisure, or hospitality environment in a managerial or supervisory capacity. • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to act decisively under pressure. • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to remain professional and approachable in all interactions. • Strong organisational and time management abilities. • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. • Experience with cash handling and reconciliation. • First Aid and Fire Marshal training (or willingness to complete this training). • Familiarity with health and safety protocols, particularly in a public venue setting. Desirable: • An interest in theatre, live events, or community arts. • Experience working with and managing volunteers. • Possession of a Personal Licence. Terms: This is a casual, zero hours position. The hours are dependent on the events in the theatre with shifts consisting of a minimum of 4 hours.
