We work closely with Kids First Nurseries that are based within our trust grounds at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham hospitals to care for our Trust family's children, they offer care for children from 6 weeks old up to 4 years. Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Nursing Assistants within the Surgical and Elective care Business unit on Ward 3 in Hexham Hospital. We are an Orthopaedic ward predominantly caring for patients undergoing elective hip and knee replacements following the fast track protocol. Most of our patients are able to go home on the same day or following day if an overnight stay is required. At present we are providing a minor procedure clinic under local anaesthetic for day case plastic surgery and spinal injections.

Main duties of the job

As a Nursing Assistant you will be expected to assist the Staff Nurse in safe and high quality care delivery for our patient group and also work alongside the multi disciplinary team. This involves using digital systems to record patient information maintaining confidentiality. Using equipment to record observations, fluid balance bladder scans and ECG. Assisting with activities of daily living, washing, dressing, nutrition, mobility whilst promoting independence to aid safe discharge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main responsibility of the role is to work alongside the multi disciplinary team to assist our patients with pre and post operative care to enable them to achieve a safe discharge home. You will be expected to provide high standard of care and also demonstrate excellent communication skills and a flexible approach. To help maintain a clean and safe ward environment. We encourage our staff to develop their skills through a variety of learning opportunities.

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation
  • Completion of a competency-based programme or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

  • Previous care experience in a health or social care setting
