Broadening Choices for Older People (BCOP) is recruiting for a senior finance officer to join our small and dedicated finance team based at our Support Office in Stirchley, Birmingham.

BCOP operates three nursing care homes and several social housing schemes for older people across Birmingham. We are an established charity with a proud history of supporting older people to live their best later life.

This is a key position within the finance team, working closely with the Head of Finance to ensure effective financial management, reporting, and compliance across the organisation.

As senior finance officer, you will support the Head of Finance in managing the finance department, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of all financial processes. You will oversee the day-to-day operation of the finance function, including the nominal ledger, purchase and sales ledgers, banking, cash flow, payroll support, and management accounts.

The role includes:

  • Supporting the production of accurate and timely management accounts and reports.
  • Supervising and developing the finance officers to maintain high standards of performance.
  • Ensuring effective internal controls, financial compliance and audit readiness.
  • Supporting budget holders across the organisation with financial guidance and training.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial audits.
  • Deputising for the Head of Finance when required.

This is a hands-on role that combines technical accounting responsibilities with people management and process improvement. You will play a key part in ensuring BCOP continues to make best use of resources, demonstrating value for money and supporting long-term sustainability.

You will be an experienced finance professional with at least three years’ experience in a similar role. You will have strong technical skills, particularly in producing management accounts, interpreting financial data, and ensuring financial controls are robust and effective.

You should be AAT-qualified (or actively studying towards completion) and confident using accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience in the charity, housing, or care sector would be an advantage.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and build positive relationships across departments. You’ll be highly organised, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.

Above all, you’ll share BCOP’s values — putting people first, collaborating with others, paying attention to detail, and adapting to meet the needs of those we support.

As well as a competitive salary, other benefits of working for BCOP include:

  • Free on-site car parking and good public transport links
  • 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing to 29 days after 5 years’ service)
  • Free health insurance
  • Workplace pension
  • Ongoing professional development and CPD opportunities
  • Supportive, values-based working environment

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, please apply using the application form below, attaching your CV and a covering letter (no more than two pages) explaining how you meet the criteria and providing examples of your skills, knowledge, and experience.

No agencies please.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an initial screening interview with our Head of Finance, Dimple Ord, and if successful, will be invited to a panel interview.

Application deadline: Monday, 10th November 2025
