Our Organisation

Leisure at Cheltenham boasts excellent swim, gym, indoor and outdoor sports facilities including a main pool, teaching pool, diving pool, and Splash Pad that aim to cater for all ages and abilities.

Due to the popularity of our swim classes and pool facilities, we have exciting developments planned as we continue to grow our Leisure team as we strive to inspire individuals to get active, learn, socialise, and exercise.

Although we have exciting plans, each team member means a lot to us. Some of our Management team began their careers as Lifeguards, and we grow together, learn together, we truly value and care about our team, and we offer excellent training development programmes.

The Role – Lifeguard

As part of a team of Lifeguards, your main objective will be to support the safe running of our leisure facilities working both inside and out of the pools, welcoming customers and ensuring their safety. Your duties will include:

• Supervising the swimming pool and ensuring safety measures are met
• Checking the safety of equipment and reporting any damage
• Ensuring a consistently high level of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained
• Assisting with the supervision of children’s activities including parties, play schemes, and courses
• Providing first aid to customers and staff where required

• Flexibility available with days and hours worked, with a range of part time, full time, and casual hours on offer
• Working a range of shifts up to 8 hours long (for a maximum of 5 days out of 7 per week for full time contracts). Our rota covers 5:30am and 10:30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am and 8pm Saturday and Sunday

If you are employed on a permanent contract working full time hours, you will work a 4-week shift pattern rota, including early and late shifts, with one weekend on / one weekend off.

Our Requirements – Lifeguard

• NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard) qualification
• Confident swimmer
• Keen interest in sport, with enthusiasm for keeping fit
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Willingness to undertake Lifeguard appropriate training, including First Aid training

Although not essential, experience gained in a leisure environment in a similar role would be highly advantageous, as would a First Aid qualification.
