HEAD OF ALPHA - JOB DESCRIPTION REPORTING TO: Associate Rector WORKING HOURS: Three days per week, Tuesday to Thursday, including some flexible hours BASED IN: Hackney Central, East London SALARY: Dependent on experience SAINT is a fast-growing and diverse church meeting across multiple East London locations, with a vision to bring hope to the people of East London in Jesus’ name. SAINT is part of the Church of England. We are on a mission to see thousands of people of all ages connect with Jesus in the years ahead, and build a meaningful and hope-filled expression of local church that will serve the community in a healthy way. With six church locations and tens of thousands of people coming through the doors each year, Alpha is core to everything we do. To support our vision, we are recruiting a passionate evangelist to the role of ‘Head of Alpha’ to oversee the delivery and development of Alpha at SAINT, with the aim of building an outstanding culture of invitation across the church, and seeing hundreds of people come to know Jesus each year on an Alpha course at SAINT. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE: - Overall responsibility for delivery and development of termly Alpha courses across SAINT, including communications and marketing, event management, catering, and guest experience - Responsibility for the rollout of Alpha courses across SAINT locations, from two to five termly courses - Development of Alpha in the context of other SAINT ministry areas, including Hey Baby and Lighthouse, working with relevant SAINT staff - Development of Alpha training across SAINT, training and developing committed and passionate hosts and helpers to serve each term - Providing general administration for SAINT Alpha courses, including guest communications, evaluation and feedback, and - working with the Ministry & Discipleship Director - integration for guests into the wider life of the church - Working with the SAINT and Alpha communications teams, oversight of Alpha invitation and marketing campaigns, ensuring Alpha reaches new people outside the church every term, and telling stories of lives transformed on past courses SAINT 1 Prodigal Square, London, E8 1FX - The development of a culture of invitation at SAINT, among the congregation, lay leaders and staff, raising the profile of Alpha across SAINT, demonstrating impact, and telling stories of transformed lives - Representation of SAINT within the wider Alpha organisation and ecosystem REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of qualities and experience, including: - A demonstrable passion for evangelism, and seeing people come to know Jesus - Experience of running Alpha in a church context, and seeing its impact on people’s lives - Being an energetic, proactive, collaborative and flexible team player - Excellent communication skills in formal and informal settings - Excellent organisational skills, including outstanding administrative skills - Empathy, and a desire to build relationships with a diverse range of people Other essential requirements of the role include: - A personal and evident Christian faith - Ability to commit to attending SAINT as your church, and engaging with the wider community here - A flexible approach to working hours - The completion of an enhanced DBS check - A commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults of all cultural backgrounds and have a good awareness of relevant policies and procedures, legislation and guidance. - A good sense of humour, and a commitment to pray. STANDARD CONTRACT TERMS Standard contract terms for the role will include: - Compulsory attendance at Tuesday morning staff meetings - The ability to regularly work on Wednesday evenings - The ability to work on Sundays, ad hoc - An annual leave entitlement of 25 days per annum pro rata, plus bank holidays - All roles have a standard 6 month probational period - Availability to work at a selection of SAINT events throughout the year, including but not limited to Renaissance Conference London, Focus Festival, Christmas and Easter services, and Annual Parochial Church Meetings SAINT 1 Prodigal Square, London, E8 1FX
