Help end hygiene poverty in the UK as The Hygiene Bank’s new Deputy CEO.

  • Location:Hybrid
  • Salary:£70,000
  • Closing date:9 a.m. Monday 12th January 2026

The Hygiene Bank is a dynamic and exciting charity tackling hygiene poverty across the UK. They believe that everyone deserves to feel clean – and it’s simply wrong that people can’t afford the basics we all need to feel confident and healthy, from toothbrushes to shampoo, soap to laundry detergent. The Charity works to give access to hygiene essentials today – and to campaign to end hygiene poverty, for good.

They are now seeking a Deputy Chief Executive to join their senior leadership team. Working closely with the CEO, this pivotal role will provide strategic and operational leadership across key areas of the charity, ensuring The Hygiene Bank continues to grow with purpose and impact.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and forward-thinking leader who can turn vision into delivery, build strong systems, and inspire teams to do their best work.

If you’re motivated by purpose and ready to help shape a movement tackling one of the UK’s most solvable social issues, this is your chance to make a real difference.

The Hygiene Bank is a movement against hygiene poverty; a national network of volunteers, community partners, and corporate supporters working together to ensure everyone has access to the basics most of us take for granted.

They collect and distribute hygiene, beauty, and personal care products to people who need them most, while also campaigning to change the systems that keep people in poverty.

In just a few years, The Hygiene Bank has grown from a grassroots initiative into a trusted and influential charity.

Today, they operate over 160 hygiene banks (“projects”) serving more than 1,500 schools, food banks, shelters, refuges, and other local organisations. Powered by major national brands and retailers, they’re united by the belief that feeling clean should never be a luxury or a privilege.

The Hygiene Bank is seeking a Deputy CEO who will take us to the next stage of structure, focus, and connectivity across the organisation. This new leadership role will strengthen delivery, enhance systems, and ensure strategic alignment across people and operations.

You’ll be a strategic operator who enjoys making things work seamlessly, with the ability to translate vision into delivery. You’ll bring confidence in change management, operational improvement, and team development, ensuring that the charity’s systems and people are aligned around shared goals.

This role will suit someone who is:

  • Skilled at overseeing day-to-day operations while keeping a strategic perspective.
  • Collaborative and able to build strong relationships across teams, trustees and partners.
  • Excited to improve and strengthen what already exists as well as bringing new ideas and initiatives to the charity.
  • Analytical and organised, with the ability to implement systems that drive efficiency and impact.
  • Financially astute, confident in interpreting management accounts and shaping financial plans that support sustainable growth and impact.
  • Motivated by purpose and social justice, and inspired by The Hygiene Bank’s mission to end hygiene poverty.

You will complement the CEO’s outward-facing, campaigning focus by providing the operational stability and strategic clarity that enables the organisation to grow its reach and influence.

The Hygiene Bank exists to end hygiene poverty. We believe everyone deserves to feel clean, yet far too many people in the UK are living without the hygiene essentials that most of us take for granted. Hygiene poverty causes misery on a day-to-day basis and damages mental and physical health, but our research is providing increasing evidence that it’s harming long term life chances. Hygiene poverty is causing people to miss work and avoid job interviews, it’s keeping children out of school, it’s trapping people in their own homes. Hygiene poverty is solvable, but only if we choose to, and only if we do it together. That’s where you come in.

Over the last three years that I’ve been at the charity, we’ve worked tirelessly to deepen our impact and establish the organisation that powers the essential work we do in communities across the UK. If you join us, you’ll be building on strong foundations, working with a talented team, committed partners, an amazing community of volunteers, and a strong Board of Trustees. From our Founder Lizzy Hall’s inspired idea, we’ve built a charity of huge potential which is making lives across the UK better, every day.

But there’s so much more to do and we’re ready for the next chapter in our journey. As we expand our reach and deepen our impact, I’m looking for a Deputy CEO who can bring both strategic focus and operational excellence to us. This is a pivotal role which needs someone who can see the bigger picture but has a forensic eye for detail; someone who can build on the great work done so far, but has their eyes on the future, and someone who has a real talent for building relationships and can lead a talented, values-driven team. It’s a wide-ranging role, deputising for me as I focus on developing our partnerships, campaigns and future strategy.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You’ll work closely with me, our trustees, and the senior leadership team to ensure The Hygiene Bank continues to grow sustainably and create meaningful change in the communities we serve.

If you share our belief that hygiene poverty has no place in 2025, if you agree that it’s a solvable problem and you’re excited to help us scale our impact and work to end hygiene poverty for good, we would love to hear from you.

Ruth Brock
CEO, The Hygiene Bank

The Hygiene Bank is a UK charity dedicated to tackling hygiene poverty; ensuring that everyone has access to the basics they need to feel clean, confident, and cared for.

The charity was founded in 2018 by Lizzy Hall MBE, who was inspired to act after seeing a powerful scene in I, Daniel Blake. Shocked by the realities of hygiene poverty in the UK, Lizzy sent a simple WhatsApp message asking friends for donations. The overwhelming response revealed both the scale of the problem and the desire among communities to help. Within weeks, The Hygiene Bank was born.

Since then, The Hygiene Bank has grown into a national movement supported by volunteers, communities, and corporate partners, all working together to end hygiene poverty for good. The charity redistributes donated hygiene, beauty, and personal care products to those who need them most, while also campaigning for systemic change to tackle the root causes of poverty and inequality.

Today, nearly 600 volunteers run over 160 local hygiene banks (“projects”), which distribute essentials to more than 1,500 food banks, schools, refuges, baby banks, shelters, and other local charities and organisations. They do this through their partnerships with major brands, retailers and funders. Their advocacy and campaigning work is helping to shape public awareness and influence policy conversations around poverty in the UK.

As the organisation moves into its next phase of development, it is focused on deepening its campaigning and policy influence and diversifying income streams to sustain long-term growth and resilience.

The Hygiene Bank is poised for its next stage of impact — scaling its reach, strengthening its foundations, and ensuring no one in the UK is held back because of hygiene poverty.

  • We challenge injustice:It’s not right that anyone should experience hygiene poverty. We take action by raising awareness and driving meaningful change.
  • We foster wellbeing:Everyone deserves to care for themselves and their families. Access to hygiene products is fundamental to health and dignity.
  • We are compassionate:We stand alongside those in crisis. Our purpose is to ensure no one is excluded from society because of hygiene poverty.
  • We are community:We build stronger, more resilient communities by working together for a fairer, more just society.
