JOB TITLE

Theatre Academy Practitioner (Freelance Contract)

MAIN RELATIONSHIPS

Youth Theatre Coordinator, Theatre Academy Assistants, Duty Managers

INTRODUCTION

Launched in January 2023, Taunton Brewhouse Theatre Academy offers young people the opportunity to learn,
perform and explore theatre together. The workshops will have a termly focus and have a multitude of benefits
available to the participants.

Taunton Brewhouse Theatre Academy takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays during term time, with
each term including 10 sessions per term.

This vacancy is exclusively for Tuesdays with opportunity to pick up additional shifts on Wednesdays & Thursdays
where cover might be required.

The schedule for this vacancy is as follows:

TUESDAYS

17:00 to 18:00
18:10 to 19:40
19:45 to 21:30

Group 1 (5yrs-9yrs)
Group 3 (11yrs-13yrs)
Group 4 (13yrs-15yrs)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

-  To plan and deliver regular sessions, predominantly working with Group 1, Group 3 & Group 4
-  To ensure that Safeguarding and other relevant policies are understood and always followed
-  To act as a mentor for all participants of varying needs, knowledge and experience
-  To always act in the best interests of Taunton Brewhouse

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

Evidence of previous experience leading or assisting young people’s projects in an arts context
Experience working with a range of individuals with various access, support and medical needs

-  A commitment to accessibility and inclusion in the arts

-  Access to own transport to and from the venue
-  Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must be aged 18+

Excellent time management skills

DESIRABLE

Based in the South West of England

Experience of directing scripted and devised productions

-  A minimum of two years’ professional arts experience
-
-  Knowledge of current social, political, and cultural issues which impact young people
-  Knowledge of Taunton and the surrounding areas
-

-  An arts-related qualification at Level 3 or above
-  Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS Clearance
-  Chaperone Licence

Previous experience of working within regional theatre venues
Experience of providing career-specific guidance to young people

TERMS & CONDITIONS

RATE OF PAY

£106.25 to £127.50 day rate per Tuesday (Depending on Experience)
(inclusive of preparation and delivery)

NI & TAX

The successful applicant must be registered as self-employed and is fully responsible for
paying all relevant contributions to HMRC

This vacancy will have a two-stage interview process. The initial stage will be an interview with the Youth Theatre
Coordinator and one other member of staff.

If your first-round interview is successful, you will then be invited to a second-round where you will be invited to
lead a 30-minute practical session with participants demonstrating your facilitation skills.
