We are looking for experienced Kitchen Porters to work with Cardiff University Food in Paned yn Sbarc. There may be opportunities to work with Cardiff University Food at other locations and shifts around campus.
The available shifts are Monday-Friday 10am-2pm. Please state which of these shifts you will be available for each week - you will need consistent weekly availability and to be able to work the full shift(s) you apply for. We are looking for candidates to start as soon as possible. Please state your availability in your application.
The University’s Catering Services provides a diversity of services to students, staff and visitors, including hospitality catering, vending, cafés, restaurants, meeting rooms and banqueting which is located throughout the University. This role is primarily concerned with providing an efficient and effective kitchen porter service within the Catering operations kitchens. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the dish-washing area, delivering food to the front of house staff and assisting with the receipt and safe storage of deliveries. The post may involve regular attendance outside normal working hours (evenings, weekends), to support the achievements of the departments goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To keep the kitchen clean tidy and hygienic at all times, to include fridges/freezers, work surfaces, walls, sinks and basins
- Loading and emptying dishwasher
- Cleaning of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Cleaning of crockery, cutlery and glassware
- Maintain a clean and organized potwash area
- Sweep and mop floor in kitchen, dry stores and walk in refrigeration areas
- Work safely around the kitchen and monitor safety issues
- To perform deep cleaning of catering areas as required
- To receive all food deliveries, recording delivery logs and safe storage of stock in a timely and efficient manner
- To carry out food temperature control monitoring and to participate and comply with Food Safety Policy
- Contributing to the successful operation of the department by maintaining departmental standards in line with operational procedures, maintaining a very high level of customer service and working with colleagues towards improving the level of standards and service.
- Take an active role in the team supporting team objectives and other team members.
- Participating in training appropriate to the position, including compulsory food hygiene training, manual handling and COSHH.
- To carry out other general duties within the scope of the grade in the event of sickness, absence or variation in workload.
- Ensuring the security and good care of equipment and notifying the Kitchen Manager and/or Senior Head Chef of any defects.
- Covering other general duties within the scope of the grade in the event of sickness, absence or variations in workload, both within the usual place of work or elsewhere within Catering Services
