Room Leader (Fledglings, Nash House) 8am – 5.30pm, M-F (Term Time Only) January 2026 Job Description & Person Specification Responsible to: Deputy Head EYFS & Head of Prep Nursery Assistants Line manages: Job Overview Duties and Responsibilities: In Nash House we nurture happy, independent children who love learning and exploring the exciting wide range of opportunities open to them. The Fledgling Room Leader ensures that the children are happy in school and that good relationships with the children and their parents / guardians are formed. They oversee the progress, health, safety and wellbeing of every child in their year group setting high expectations with regard to the children’s learning, achievements, behaviour, manners and respect for others and property. Create a nurturing environment for all children to thrive. Collaboratively plan the provision to enable children to flourish in Prime Areas of learning. Support Fledglings team to develop positive relationships with their key children and families. Represent the Fledglings team at Teacher/Room leader meetings and Pastoral meetings. Contribute to the development of provision in line with departmental goals (e.g. early writing/continuous provision). Ensure effective daily planning and distribution of duties such as nappy changing, toileting, snack prep etc. Enable all Fledglings staff to build positive relationships with the children and families within the year groups. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children by completing the daily checks. Ensure all Fledglings team are supported in their professional development by leading appraisal progress and supporting them to find CPD to develop their practice. Work closely with Nursery team to ensure smooth transition from Fledglings room to Nursery. Keep up to date with latest developments in provision for 2-3 year olds to ensure best practice and share this with Head of Prep and Deputy Head (Early Years) and with the Fledglings team. Complete all home visits to determine key person for each child and collect information about child and family to support transition to Nash House. Arrange settling in sessions following our settling in policy and steps. Set up Tapestry observations for the week highlighting what has been covered in the week for Nursery practitioners to add personalised comments to. Plan time for staff to complete Tapestry observations for their key children by adding personalised comments and next steps. Liaise with SENCo to plan additional support where children are not making expected progress. Identify resources to enhance provision and put forward requests for capital purchases to Head of Prep and Deputy Head (Early Years) Work with Deputy Head (Early Years) Support staff as required during Parents’ evenings if points need to be raised or addressed with parents’ carers. Have a minimum level 3 qualification and hold up-to-date Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection and Food Hygiene certificates Experience of previously working as a Room Leader is desirable but not essential Demonstrate the ability to create a rapport with the children Take the individual needs of the child into account and responds to them appropriately Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Calm, patient and empathetic. Creative and imaginative in their approach. Organised with good administration skills. A professional manner at all times Creative and imaginative – inspires creativity in others Is very flexible with regards the work undertaken and the hours and days available to work Keys Skills & Knowledge: Personal Competencies & Qualities: Able to attend all mandatory training (e.g. child protection training) as required by the School.
