Salary transparency in charity recruitment

Why salary clarity matters for candidate trust and how to publish ranges responsibly.

A salary range displayed beside a clear application timeline

Salary transparency saves time for candidates and hiring teams. It also helps build trust before the first conversation.

Publish a real range

If the role has a fixed budget, say so. If there is room within a band, explain how appointment salary is decided.

Include the working pattern

Salary only makes sense alongside hours, contract length, and location. A full-time equivalent figure should be labelled clearly when the role is part time.

Avoid hidden negotiation

When candidates cannot see the range, they have to guess whether the opportunity is viable. That creates avoidable drop-off and can narrow the applicant pool.

Keep benefits concrete

List pension contributions, leave, flexible working, training budgets, and other benefits plainly. Specifics are more useful than broad claims about culture.
