Reducing drop-off in applications

Simple changes that help applicants complete charity job applications with less friction.

An application form with fewer steps and clearer progress

Application drop-off often comes from uncertainty. Candidates abandon processes when they cannot tell how long it will take or what will happen next.

Show the steps

List the application format, review period, interview stages, and target dates. A simple timeline reduces anxiety and follow-up questions.

Remove duplicate questions

Do not ask candidates to repeat information already in their CV or form unless the answer is used in assessment. Every repeated field adds friction.

Keep statements focused

If you ask for a supporting statement, give clear prompts. Candidates should know which criteria they are expected to evidence.

Confirm receipt

An immediate confirmation email is small, but it matters. It tells applicants the process is working and sets expectations for the next update.
