Where will I be working?
Our services in Thornton provide a 24 hour facilities in providing care for 11 adults with Learning Disabilities and additional health issues.
We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals' lives in a person centred way which includes various activities, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.
You will work as part of a large staff team covering various shift patterns including occasional night shifts.
Please note: in this service we support people with complex learning disabilities and there are high levels of personal care involved.
Training and Development
We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.
- Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
- Level 3 Operational Team Leader
Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.
Shift Patterns
Please note that this is a nights role. The working hours are from 7pm to 7:30am.
Role Responsibility
What will I be doing?
This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
- promoting the independence of people we support
- supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
- arranging activities in the home and in the local community
- developing residents' life skills and personal interests
- helping residents stay safe and healthy
- assisting with personal care needs
- manual handling
- supporting people with medication including creams and lotions
- ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
What skills and qualities do I need to have?
Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:
- passionate, caring and enthusiastic
- flexible, patient and non-judgemental
- a great team player with lots of energy
- able to demonstrate good communication skills
- able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
- transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety

The Vacancy
We are looking to recruit an Advocate to work 15 hours per week that will provide independent and confidential advocacy to children and young people who are entitled to or are receiving support from a local authority in the Gwent region.
You will work with children and young people to empower them to express their wishes and feelings in decisions that affect their lives to ensure that their voices are heard.
Your role is to listen to them, hear how they feel and what it is they want and support them by promoting their understanding of outcomes and options that are available to them so they can make informed decisions whilst ensuring that their legal rights are upheld and that they are treated fairly.
You will do this by:
- Attending decision making meetings with the young person and ensuring that others know how the young person is feeling and what it is they want.
- Providing impartial information to the young person.
- Assisting the young person making a complaint.
- Asking question to other professionals on behalf of the young person.
- Signposting to other relevant services.
About you
We are looking for someone who shares our passion in changing the lives of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
You will have experience in working with all or some of these groups within a relevant setting and have the ability to communicate effectively with them and other professionals. You will also understand the importance of maintaining professionalism.
You will also live within the geographical area in order to fulfil the requirements of the role.
We understand that you may or may not have significant direct experience and this isn’t a problem as we can offer full training and you will be supported by NYAS in obtaining an Advocacy qualification.

Family Wellbeing Practitioner (Young Person) Project Worker 1: for Barnardo's Cyfle Service.
Location of Post:
The Young Person Wellbeing Practitioner will be based from the Westbourne Centre in Rhyl and will supporting young people in local schools/community hubs and family homes. A digital offer will also be made available to the service users.
Summary of Service:
Service 2- Young Person's Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service.
Aim: To offer 1:1 and/or group support to young people to improve their emotional wellbeing through tailored support packages which is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure their voice is heard in the progress of their plan- to help them reach their desired outcomes.
Who is it for: Young People aged 12- up until their 18th Birthday (depending on assessed need).
Job purpose
The post holder will directly support young people to positively manage emotional well-being issues.
Job Activities:
To meet with the young person and support with their emotional health and wellbeing needs on a regular and planned basis. An assessment of their needs will be required to help formulate a support plan.

Specific Essential Requirements:
- Knowledge of other supportive emotional health and wellbeing services available to young people.
- Knowledge of issues affecting young people and the systems which impact upon their lives (Health, benefits, education, employment, housing).
- Involvement in establishing and working with support networks for young people.
- Involvement in designing and implementing group and individual programmes of work with vulnerable young people.
- Skilled in communicating with young people.
- A full, clean driving licence and the use of a car to meet the requirements of the post.
- Be able to work flexible hours, including planned occasional evenings and weekends.

We are seeking an experienced Consultant to create a Behavioural Competency Framework that articulates what it looks like in practice to live our values and Feminist Leadership Principles in a practical way (which can be embedded in Job Descriptions (JDs) and staff workplans, and used in performance management and staff development).
Key deliverables
- A behavioural competency framework aligned with organisational values and Feminist Leadership Principles
- A brief summary of the creation approach and rationale
- Simple tool and guidance notes for practical use – how we apply to JDs; workplans; staff development; enhance the culture
- A clear, values-aligned implementation roadmap
Timeline
- Consultancy expected to run for 2-4 months, with flexibility to accommodate stakeholder availability

About you
We are looking for a Consultant with:
- Demonstrable experience developing values-based and feminist leadership competency frameworks
- Experience, skills and evidence developing a framework and tools that support practical application in the real world with limited resources
- Experience working with charities and/or INGOs
- Experience confidently navigating diverse stakeholders and thriving in dynamic organisational environments
- The ability to work in a way that is aligned with our values and Feminist Leadership Principles.

We are looking for volunteers to join our North East Care Team to provide support to families either by volunteering alongside our Family Support Workers, or supporting families independently.
This role could involve:
- Social support for siblings e.g. helping with homework, supporting interests and play/craft activities
- Accompanying the family on days out or sibling trips during the school holidays
- Accompanying the family to hospital appointments
- Practical support in the family home such as housework, shopping or gardening

- Problematic Sexual Behaviour (PSB) -A service focused on children who are displaying PSB, delivered over the course of 12 sessions with children and young people, and up to 6 for parents or carer
