Time Commitment: Minimum of one morning or afternoon a fortnight

Location: Minchinhampton, Stroud

Could you spare some time to support wellbeing at Longfield Community Hospice? We are looking for qualified Complementary Therapy Volunteers to provide gentle, client-centred complementary therapy treatments as part of our Living Well Services. In this role, you will offer one-to-one therapies to patients living with a life-limiting illness, as well as to carers, family members and people who have been bereaved. Therapies currently offered include massage (including HEARTS and ‘M’ Technique), aromatherapy massage, reflexology and reiki, with treatments adapted to individual needs and lasting between 10 and 45 minutes. You will work as part of Longfield’s clinical Living Well Services team, following the guidance of the Complementary Therapy team and completing relevant records and documentation.

This role requires a minimum commitment of one morning or afternoon per fortnight, or a minimum of two outpatient treatments per session, plus attendance at induction, mandatory training and occasional volunteer meetings. This role is ideal for a qualified, compassionate therapist who is emotionally resilient, comfortable working with people with life-limiting illness, and keen to make a meaningful difference through holistic care

Role Responsibility

Distress Response Worker
Compassionate Distress Response Service (GAMH)

ACCOUNTABLE TO:  CDRS Service Manager

REPORTING TO:          Distress Response Project Leader

BACKGROUND:

Glasgow Association for Mental Health has been commissioned by Glasgow City Health and
Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service. This work
has been developed as part of the NHSGGC Multiagency Distress Collaborative with the aim
of providing a more appropriate response to people in distress who do not require a
medical, clinical or specialist psychiatric assessment. The service is available to adults 16+,
who at the time of their distress are currently within the geographical area of Glasgow City
HSCP.

Our OOHs service is for Emergency Services, First Responders and the Mental Health
Assessment Units at Leverndale and Stobhill. This service operates 7 days per week, from
4.45pm - 2am.

Our In Hrs service is for GPs and their multidisciplinary teams. This service operates 5 days a
week, from 9am-5pm.

Both services provide mainly telephone contact with some face to face support where
needed.

CDRS operate from our GAMH Head Office at St Andrews by the Green.

PURPOSE AND ROLE:

Specific Responsibilities

You will provide a quick and effective response to individuals referred to CDRS, help
alleviate their feelings of distress through compassionate listening and providing
appropriate coping strategies to meet their needs.

You will respond to referrals into the service, following initial triage conversations and risk

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Support Workers make a real difference to our residents every day; whether it’s helping them with their daily routines or personal care, providing companionship or joining in with the vast array of fun activities that take place in our homes, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring they are leading happy and fulfilled lives. You’ll also carry out light household duties to ensure that the household and resident’s rooms are kept clean and tidy, involving them where it’s appropriate to do so. You’ll understand that some days might be challenging, but you’ll also laugh, have fun and make lasting memories with our residents.

In joining us, you’ll also become part of our extended family. You’ll work alongside other team members who are passionate about providing care, warmth and kindness to all those who live and work in our homes.

ABOUT YOU

Ideally with, or willing to work towards, a Diploma/NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), you’ll have a proven track record in elderly care and a commitment to providing high quality care standards for older people.

You’ll be a positive role model, with excellent communication skills and a natural ability to get along with others. You’ll be keen to learn and will want to excel at your job at all times, so we’ll provide all the support you need to start your career with us - all delivered in a nurturing, engaging and rewarding environment.
