As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs.
Supporting people in their own homes and lone working with 16 people with housework, laundry, shopping, menu planning, preparing meals, supporting to arrange health appointments and going to health appointments at times, prompting to order their medication and reminding them to collect their medication. Everyone enjoys holidays, going to the theatre, cinema, day trips out and going out in the community
From assisting with daily activities to providing emotional support, you’ll play a vital role in their life.
What we're looking for:

Contract options:

Shift times:
All our services are 24hr care. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!

- Sleep-ins: 22:00-07:00
There is also a sleep-in available where you will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £63.70.

Midlothian service operates in both Loanhead and Dalkeith.
In Loanhead we support 6 people in 5 flats within the same block. Our supported people have a wide range of support needs including Dysphasia.
There are good transport links to Loanhead including Lothian's bus numbers 37 & 47 and Borders bus X62. There is 1 sleepover shift per day and shifts are usually approximately 8 hours e.g. 8am - 4pm or 1pm - 9pm.
Dalkeith supports 5 people within the same complex all in their own flats. Shifts are approximately 8 or 9 hours (e.g. 9-5, 9-6 or 12-8).
There are good bus transport links from Edinburgh on Lothian bus numbers 3 & 33. East Coast Bus 140 also operates between Musselburgh and Dalkeith.
During your induction and training period you will work alongside our experienced team members, once your training is complete this role will involve lone working.

This is a remote volunteer role that you can do from your home, where you will talk to affected parents and carers over the phone.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
As a Support Worker with SOL, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support that empowers people to live fulfilling, independent lives in line with their Outcome-Based Support Plans and SOL’s mission, vision, and values.
- Deliver compassionate, respectful care that promotes dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
- Support people in their own homes or family homes to maintain their tenancy and live the lifestyle they choose.
- Assist with personal care (e.g. bathing) and daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping, where appropriate.
- Safeguard individuals’ health, wellbeing, finances, and property, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Promote social inclusion by supporting participation in activities and encouraging the maintenance of positive relationships with family, friends, and the community.
- Accurately record all required information using SOL’s [digital] systems and contribute to the ongoing improvement of service quality.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to deliver consistent and coordinated support.
- Support the development and delivery of high-quality services by maintaining compliance with SOL’s policies, SSSC Codes of Practice, National Care and Care Inspectorate standards.
- Participate in coaching, reflection, and review processes to support personal and professional development.
- Maintain continuous professional development and meet all training and SSSC registration requirements, including any mandatory training and the completion of an SVQ.
- Represent SOL positively in all interactions, upholding our values and safeguarding the organisation’s reputation.

GLASGOW ASSOCIATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH Job Description POST: Distress Response Worker Compassionate Distress Response Service (GAMH) ACCOUNTABLE TO: CDRS Service Manager REPORTING TO: Distress Response Project Leader BACKGROUND: Glasgow Association for Mental Health has been commissioned by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service. This work has been developed as part of the NHSGGC Multiagency Distress Collaborative with the aim of providing a more appropriate response to people in distress who do not require a medical, clinical or specialist psychiatric assessment. The service is available to adults 16+, who at the time of their distress are currently within the geographical area of Glasgow City HSCP. Our OOHs service is for Emergency Services, First Responders and the Mental Health Assessment Units at Leverndale and Stobhill. This service operates 7 days per week, from 4.45pm - 2am. Our In Hrs service is for GPs and their multidisciplinary teams. This service operates 5 days a week, from 9am-5pm. Both services provide mainly telephone contact with some face to face support where needed. CDRS operate from our GAMH Head Office at St Andrews by the Green. PURPOSE AND ROLE: Specific Responsibilities You will provide a quick and effective response to individuals referred to CDRS, help alleviate their feelings of distress through compassionate listening and providing appropriate coping strategies to meet their needs. You will respond to referrals into the service, following initial triage conversations and risk assessment You will help individuals make informed choices and help with signposting when needed. February 2025 Workload Management & Planning You will be able to respond quickly, efficiently and professionally to referrals made into the service. You will help manage and resolve challenging situations promptly and raise issues appropriately using the correct processes and procedures. You will keep up to date with any correspondence from management and adapt practice in line with any changes. You will ensure that the appropriate staff are updated with relevant handover/follow up arrangements. Information Gathering, Monitoring and Evaluation You will be responsible for accurate record keeping, administrative and information/data processing tasks and ensure that they are processed to the required standards at all times, contributing to service monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance requirements. You will contribute to agreed systems, procedures and practice for assessments, plans and reviews. You will contribute to the development of systems to manage risk to self, others and team members. Training and Support You will participate in training, induction and Preparation for Practice as necessary to carry out the functions of the post. Since first opening our doors in 2005, Autism Initiatives Ireland has provided specialist autism services for adults across our Residential, Respite, Day, and Community Support Services.
