As a Family Support Volunteer, you will provide additional support to the families we work with by either volunteering alongside our Family Support Workers, or supporting families independently.

We are dedicated to offering a fun and engaging event that is memorable for participants, whilst also showcasing The Joshua Tree and its groundbreaking work. Opportunities to support the Family Support Team • Get Creative - To help set up events alongside our Family Support team and prepare the Centre to welcome our families. Our craft tables are always such a huge hit with the children and so volunteers can be on hand to help with all the paints, crayons, and gallons of glitter. • Get stuck in – Assist with all aspects of the sessions, from setting up craft tables, to getting the heart space prepared, to filling the kettle ready to help make lots of teas and coffees. • Be the host with the most - To welcome our families into the Centre and make them feel at ease straight away. If it is their first time, being able to make introductions and directing them to where they can sit down or make a cup of tea will go a long way in making them feel at home. We need regular, smiley, and positive volunteers for our family events so that our families feel at home when they are with us. • Be our voice - To feel confident when talking about The Joshua Tree and our work • All hands-on deck – the event, as well as to • Supervise children – groups, levels, and the child's imagination to help tidy up afterwards and not take advantage of our wonderful volunteers. Forward Trust is seeking a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to join our Integrated Substance Misuse Service at HMP Send, a female training prison. Our service operates within an integrated health and well-being framework to provide tailored support for individuals with drug and alcohol issues.
You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver both psychosocial and clinical interventions, including the intensive 12-step abstinence-based treatment programme, Footsteps in Recovery (formerly RAPt Women’s Substance Dependence Treatment Programme – WSDTP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload, providing advice, guidance, and structured care plans.
- Conduct assessments, deliver 1:1 sessions, and facilitate group therapy.
- Deliver the intensive 12-step programme through group therapy, assignment reviews, workshops, step lectures, and individual counselling.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external agencies to support release planning and community reintegration.
- Contribute to organisational and service targets set by Forward and local commissioners.
- Commit to and complete the Drug and Alcohol Workforce Development Programme (DAWFDP), a 12-month structured professional development programme aligned with the OHID capability framework.
Essential Criteria:
- Thorough knowledge of and commitment to the 12-step recovery process.
- Experience providing counselling to prisoners or individuals with drug or alcohol problems.
- Experience working in a 12-step primary care programme.
- Skilled in CBT and motivational counselling techniques.
- Experienced in conducting assessments and designing SMART care plans.
- Possession of a recognised counselling qualification, or ongoing attendance on a recognised counselling course.
Desirable:
- Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent.

Recovery Co-ordination is a diverse and rewarding role, key duties you will undertake are:
- Manage a caseload, devising, implementing, and reviewing on-going recovery and treatment plans
- Facilitate and promote individuals’ progression from engagement, through structured treatment, to self-sustained recovery
- Reduce substance related harm to individuals and the wider community
- Working collaboratively with key partners and colleagues to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes for individuals

About you…
You will have a passion for making a difference and fair chances for all should be at the core of everything you do.
You will have an NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or above or equivalent) or willing to work towards this in post. You will have a fantastic understanding of and ability to implement interventions, including brief interventions MI, PSIs, CBT and ITEP, experience of delivering 1-2-1 and group therapeutic interventions.

About the Role

About the Role

What You’ll Do
- Effectively manage a caseload of service users, reviewing and updating on-going processes such as risk assessments, risk management plans and safeguarding assessments and plans.
- Work closely and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team across the service and externally, providing advice and reports/ information to managers and other colleagues, through attendance at reviews, team meetings, supervision and via telephone conversations.
- Improve outcomes for children, parents/carers and families of services users by reducing the impact of drug and alcohol related harm on family life and promote positive family involvement in recovery.
- Develop and deliver quality programs and packages of work and psychosocial interventions that meet local need across both group work and one to one formats.
- Identify and prevent potential harm to service users and others by following local and organisational safeguarding guidelines, including referral to and engagement with relevant safeguarding authorities.
- Support delivery of key service functions through actively participating in drug screening, duty work, access to BBV testing and immunisation service provision, community needle exchange services and the ongoing delivery of appropriate, tailored alcohol and drug harm reduction interventions.
