The Role
We are looking to recruit a Casual - Cleaning Operative to work at the Whitegate Drive Health Centre in Blackpool.
Reporting to the Cleaning Supervisor, you will work individually or as part of a team to undertake the cleaning of designated areas within the property and to ensure that they are kept in a clean and hygienic environment.
You duties will include but not be limited to:
- Cleaning, washing, sweeping, vacuum cleaning, emptying of litter bin, polishing and dusting of the designated areas (which may include toilets and shower areas), and fixture and fittings, using where appropriate, powered equipment.
- The movement of items of furniture.
- All duties must be carried out to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act; statutory and company instruction and regulation and any other legal requirements.
- To relieve and assist in other establishments in certain circumstances.
- To attend and take all necessary action, statutory and otherwise in the event of accident, fire, loss, theft, lost property, damage, unfit food or other irregularities and complete the necessary return and/or reports.
- To attend meetings as requested.
- Duties may vary dependant on the requirement to cover in times of staff absence.
- Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
- Comply with Company rules, policies and procedures at all times.
It is essential that you have worked in a similar role and enjoy working as part of a busy team. You will have excellent customer service skills and be confident in communicating with clients, patients and colleagues.
The hourly rate for this role is £13.45 this is a casual role and the hours are not guaranteed
This role is subject to completion and satisfactory outcome of a Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS).

Understanding increased gene dosage effects in Down Syndrome embryonic mouse hearts

This is a summer student position supervised by Zuzanna Jablonska in Victor Tybulewicz's lab.
Introduction to the Science
Down syndrome, caused by trisomy of human chromosome 21 (Hsa21), is a gene dosage disorder that results in several pathologies including learning and memory deficits, craniofacial alterations, and congenital heart defects. To study these pathologies, we use the Dp1Tyb mouse model, which contains a duplication of 23Mb of mouse chromosome 16 (Mmu16) which is orthologous to part of Hsa21. This region contains 144 protein coding genes, which are therefore present in three copies instead of the usual two. Dp1Tyb mice develop congenital heart defects similar to the ones seen in people with Down syndrome. These include ventricular and atrio-ventricular septal defects, which are observed in the developing hearts of Dp1Tyb mice.
About the Project
Heart septation depends on key contributions from two major cell types: the second heart field and the cardiac neural crest, which help remodel the early heart tube into a four-chambered heart. For this process to happen correctly, different signalling pathways need to carefully coordinate how these cell types contribute to forming the septum. This project will focus on understanding the role of the neural crest cells during heart septation and how increased dosage of genes in the Dp1Tyb mice affects this process. To study this, we will use a fluorescent reporter system that is activated by Cre recombinase. This will allow us to identify and track neural crest-derived cells in developing mouse hearts.
By joining this project, you will gain hands-on experience with a range of developmental biology techniques, including:
- Embryo dissection - collecting embryonic hearts at key developmental stages.
- Immunofluorescence and confocal imaging - labelling specific cell types and capturing high-resolution images.
- Image analysis - using software tools to quantify how neural crest-derived cells contribute to septation.
Candidate background
The post holder should embody and demonstrate the Crick ethos and ways of working: bold, open and collegial. The candidate must be registered at a UK Higher Education Institution, studying in the UK and must have completed a minimum of two years’ undergraduate study in a relevant discipline, and on track to receive a final degree grade of 2:1 or 1. In addition, they should be able demonstrate the following experience and key competencies:
- This project is ideal for students curious about developmental biology, genetics, microscopy, or congenital heart defects. You will get to work closely with a research team, learn techniques widely used in biomedical research, and contribute to understanding how the heart forms.

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Mandarin Language Assistant to start in August 2026.
The Department
Brighton College is a sector leader when it comes to the teaching of Mandarin. It has been compulsory subject from 2006 for all pupils in Year 7 and 8 and the department consists of three members of staff. There are currently 40 non-native pupils taking the subject at GCSE, with a strong proportion of pupils choosing to continue the subject into Sixth Form. There are also a large number of native or heritage Chinese pupils learning the subject off timetable.
At present we follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE and the Edexcel Chinese A-level course, as well as HSK4 in the Sixth Form. The results in recent years have been excellent, achieving 100% 9-7 at GCSE with over 80% achieving 9-8, and 100% A*-B at A-level. The department also has a comprehensive Oxbridge programme, with much recent success in this area.
We run a challenge week encouraging all pupils and staff to have more contact with Chinese culture. Every year we have pupils enter Mandarin speaking and translation competitions. We encourage all our pupils to make Chinese a real part of their everyday lives and use their language as often as possible.
Role SpecificationThe successful candidate will be expected to support the teaching of Mandarin across the curriculum, from Year 7 to A-level. The candidate will primarily assist with heritage or native pupils' learning from Year 7 to Year 10, both one-to-one and in small groups, and with our provision for speaking practice for native speakers of Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese), as well as conducting speaking sessions, both one-to-one and in small groups for our GCSE and A-level groups. There may be opportunities to develop classroom teaching for those with an interest in this area. Part of the role also involves planning and organising cultural enrichment activities for different Chinese festivals, and departmental school trips and outings for pupils.
Additionally, all teaching assistants at Brighton College are expected to contribute to the school’s pastoral system, generally as a tutor in one of our 16 houses (of which six are boarding houses and ten are day).

Three shifts per week (12hrs per week over two week rota) shifts are 8pm – midnight
Magdalen House (our 29-bed home) is a beautifully presented Residential Care Home for older people. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced carer who believes delivering resident health and wellbeing is the highest priority.
The job will suit candidates who are skilled and compassionate, are empathetic to the needs of older people, and looking for ongoing development.
Those holding a minimum of NVQ/QCF 2 in Health and Social Care, or the Care Certificate are encouraged to apply.

Role Overview
Working closely with the Head of Print Studio to fulfil DCA’s vision, the post holder will bring their experience and expertise as a printmaker to help deliver the Print Studio’s programme of activity, including printing editions with invited artists, assisting registered users across a range of printmaking techniques and providing teaching for the public through Get Creative.
DCA Print Studio is an internationally renowned centre for print production, collaboration and research, with a diverse range of standard and specialised print and CNC equipment, offering open access facilities, workshops, courses, residencies, editioning and special projects. The print-based activities developed and delivered by the team engage a broad range of users including artists, community partners and members of the public, as part of DCA’s creative and cultural programme.

The Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in urban geographies of climate crisis. The tentative start date for this position is
July 15, 2026.
Simon Fraser University is one of British Columbia’s leading research universities with campuses located on the unceded traditional territories of the səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Qayqayt, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen peoples. The Department of Geography at SFU is one of the strongest Geography departments in North America. We rank 4th of all Geography departments in Canada according to the 2025 QS World University subject ratings, and 1st amongst Canadian comprehensive universities in the 2025 Maclean’s University Rankings.
We seek candidates who have expertise in and seek to advance critical social science understandings of the multifaceted social and political aspects of climate crisis, centring urban geographic dimensions of the crisis. Specifically, these may include: i) urban climate justice; ii) climate-related urban social movements; iii) extreme weather as it relates to urban precarity (e.g., work, housing, food security); iv) critical analyses of urban infrastructures in relation to just climate futures; v) Black, Indigenous, and/or queer approaches to urban life and climate change; and vi) cities and extractivism. Other related interests are also welcome. We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose work addresses one or more of these specializations in the context of the Global South.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in human geography, or a related discipline at the time of appointment. Ph.D. candidates with a solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon final completion of the Ph.D.
We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, potential for excellence in teaching and supervision, and commitment to collegial service. At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 26 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.
About the role
We’re looking for a Desktop Technician to join our Digital Business Support Team, providing IT support for our staff, volunteers and patients.
Our Desktop Support Technicians:
- Support bespoke applications, desktop & laptop systems, and mobile devices
- Troubleshoot printing devices and network connectivity problems
- Provide support to staff with all existing systems and supporting staff IT training
- Support the rollout of new projects
- Play an active role in the on-call team to support the hospices out of hours
Much of this role is focused around supporting users with their digital needs and providing excellent customer service.
You’ll be working in an environment that offers insight into many aspects of the IT industry, such as enterprise level network security, ICT planning, documentation, and high-end hardware. You’ll also be provided with a training programme to develop your skils and knowledge.
This position is office-based at our Warwick Hospice, with occasional travel to our other sites when required. You’ll usually work during office hours, Monday-Friday, with some out-of-hours, on-call work, on a rota.
Similar roles include: IT Support Engineer; IT Technician; Helpdesk Assistant.
About you
To be one of our Desktop Support Technicians, you’ll need:
- Experience with and good working knowledge of desktop systems, hardware, drivers and security
- Abilities in installation, diagnostic, upgrade and restoration
- Skills in teamwork, time management, customer service, problem-solving and communication
- Continual professional and personal development
The workload can be varied with periods of increased pressure and deadlines, so problem-solving and time management are key.
A standard DBS check will be required, because this role involves some interaction with patients. We will arrange and cover the cost of this check if your application is successful.

Become a Gym Instructor at Fusion:
The gym can be an intimidating place and as a Gym Instructor for Fusion Lifestyle, you will warmly welcome all customers, ensure equipment is used safely, and encourage users by devising and delivering fitness assessments and programs, all whilst keeping the gym clean and inviting.
You will also deliver group exercise classes when required, so you will need experience of delivering exercise classes using first class customer service to a diverse client base.

Some of the responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with our customers and potential customers
- Supervising activities in the Fitness Rooms and operating the equipment in a manner consistent with safe working practice
- Assisting in the implementation, marketing and administration of activities and healthy lifestyles
- Devising and delivering fitness assessments, programmes and testing, exercise prescription, GP referrals and specialist inductions, as and when required (following appropriate training)
- Supporting and assisting in sales and retention processes
- Maintenance of customer records and performing administration duties as required
- Maintenance of own mandatory qualifications, licensing and CPD/ training requirements
- Champion in role and take personal responsibility for all hygiene, health and safety policy and procedure
- Carry out testing and / or other hygiene, health and safety checks as needed, passing results immediately to the appropriate person and escalating potential issues promptly
- Safely support managing customer flow and expectation of waiting times and attendance across all areas of the centre
- Undertake all day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the equipment and fittings, to the highest possible standards, bringing attention any faults or major repairs to the relevant team
- Proactively manage customer behaviour during the use of facilities to ensure highest possible levels of safety and enjoyment
